Took a personalized highlight tour of Tokyo with the family. It's a good way to visit a few hot spots and get some information from a guide. Yasu was helpful with some insights and kept us on schedule. Also it was nice to be in a smaller group of 8 people instead of an entire bus full to move through the crowds. We were picked up at our hotel and had the option of being dropped back off or staying at the last location. Overall great experience, I would recommend.

This was a fantastic food tour. It was the perfect way to get to know Tokyo on foot while learning about it's culinary history. Paiva was an amazing tour guide!

This was a great tour! It was a small group with a great guide named Paiva. She was very cheerful and took great pride in showing us the ropes. She provided a little history lesson as we traveled around, and she made sure everyone stayed together. Most importantly, Paiva took us to some great spots we would have never found. The best part of the day was the small little udon curry spot. I’m nearly depressed I won’t be able to have that again. If you’re wanting a nice, easy tour that provides great food along the way, this one is for you.

We decided to be involved in a small group food tour in Tokyo as an introduction to Japanese food and culture early in our Japanese trip. This was very wise because we had an excellent guide, Paiva, who explained all the different aspects of the evolution of Japanese eating and food preparation and styles. She was very knowledgeable and set a relaxed pace during the tour so we had plenty of time to sample a wide variety of foods. We journeyed from dashi broth produced by a business that had been functioning since 1737 to the "salarymen" simple but delicious curry udon noodle preparations through to the more modern Japanese food choices, especially candy. We learned about and tasted onigiri, amazake, ramen, shashimi, daifuku mochi, doryaki, sushi, imo-kenpi, konbu, yakitori and dashi amongst others.
Paiva gave a great explanation of each and its history. We spent the 6 hours in three regions in Tokyo: Nihombashi, Ginza/Yurakcho and Akihabara. Very worthwhile expedition and not arduous. Good value for money given the time involved and the numerous food samplings. Thoroughly recommend this as a introduction to Japanese food and culture. If one wants to understand the food culture of a country then this sort of tour should be done early on in one's travels.
Paiva gave a great explanation of each and its history. We spent the 6 hours in three regions in Tokyo: Nihombashi, Ginza/Yurakcho and Akihabara. Very worthwhile expedition and not arduous. Good value for money given the time involved and the numerous food samplings. Thoroughly recommend this as a introduction to Japanese food and culture. If one wants to understand the food culture of a country then this sort of tour should be done early on in one's travels.

I will split the review in two components.
1)Sights visited in Tokyo will gave a good first impression of the city and its history. The tour includes some basic information about Japanese food and the ingredients used to make them. It's a well-designed, but potentially exhausting itinerary. It's definitely worth while. Make sure you're prepared for a full afternoon of walking and activities. I am a return visitor and found it useful.
2)The guide has huge impact on the quality of any tour, and Miko was absolutely wonderful. She is extremely energetic, kind and goes out of her way to be helpful to ensure you have an informative afternoon. I have done a number of tours in Asia, and she is among the best guides I have encountered. It helps that she has lived in Europe and North Africa, so she has a broad perspective that helps here with tour members from outside Japan.
I have done tours with Hello Tokyo in the past; they have always been good quality with competent guide. I have had less success with some of the other companies.

This food tour with Yasu Kita was unique and educational. We were taken to small shops and eateries that represented the past present and future of Tokyo. We tasted seasonings and dishes that represented many facets of Tokyo‘s cuisine. Yasu provided an in-depth look into Tokyo’s history, both architectural and gastronomical. This is a highly recommended tour.

We loved our day out with Yasu. He introduced us to three different districts of Tokyo (past, present and future) and the most delicious foods to be found there. We learned about culinary traditions and Japanese culture and history. We had a good walk (and took the trains too) to work up an appetite, stopping at traditional izakayas, tiny food stores, a hidden noodle shop, a shrine, and some lovely buildings along the way. The company was excellent and we had some good laughs. We ended the day in the futuristic (but somewhat ominous) district of Akihabara. Fascinating tour and I recommend doing it at the start of your visit to Tokyo.
