Picture the scene ... a couple in their 50s with their teenage niece in tow wanting to spend several hours in the throbbing heart of Harajuku ...
Quite a daunting prospect but that's where the Half-day Kawaii Tour and Eriko (our guide) enter the scene.
It was very clear from the first few minutes that Eriko and our niece had a fantastic bond and that Eriko knew exactly where to go, what to see, and what to do.
We use private guides a lot but it is rare for one to exceed our expectations by so much. Virtually everything she suggested was an instant success with our niece and she adapted the program as went went along to focus on things that were of most interest ... including assistance in the dressing up photo booth and helping to translate all the instructions to get the classic strip of photos produced.
We purposely chose a Sunday afternoon visit to get the full Harajuku effect ... which meant it was completely mobbed with teenagers and tourists. Eriko was able to weave our way thru' the crowds, find the specialist shops, and also the hidden alleyways to enhance the experience.
We honestly don't know what could have been done to make the afternoon more successful. Eriko - thank you for care and attention throughout our time with you!
If it was possible to give a 6 star review we would!!!

Kaori was absolutely amazing. We wanted to do many things differently and really “see” Harajuku beyond all the tourist spots. She was very flexible and change the itinerary to meet our needs. Not only did she show us around to very cool spots like the Latte Art, Owl Restaurant, B-Label and more… she also showed us around the real Harajuku culture and art galleries and clothing scene. If I could give this tour more stars I would.

Harajuku has amazing sights that must be experienced! We went with Ken on a slightly rainy day in summer and it was enjoyable seeing the shops and getting expert advice on where to go and what to see. We had lunch at a traditional Japanese restaurant, and it was delicious! The shrine was also beautiful, and the owl cafe was definitely a highlight, especially for our 11 year old daughter!

Rie-san was the PERFECT tour guide for me and my 11 year old daughter, for her first long awaited visit to Japan, and for our Daddy Daughter trip to explore youth culture, anime/manga, gaming, history, food and fashion.
Rie met us on time in front of Harajuku station, and took us around the area to see shops and sights tailored for my daughter's interests:
- Takeshitadori shopping street
- Cat street
- B-SIDE LABEL (waterproof stickers designed by Japanese artists)
- Cafe Reissue (3D latte art)
- Tokyu Plaza Harajuku, which is known as "Harakado" , opened in April, 2024
- Harajuku Kawaii Zoo (Animal Cafe)
My daughter was delighted and found this to be a highlight of her trip!
Rie-san is kind, considerate, patient, knowledgeable, and best of all a teacher at a Tokyo bilingual school, and so she is VERY good with children!

My first trip to Japan and doing it solo so booked this tour to give me some insight to things I wouldn’t have considered. Emiko was my guide and was lovely and very accommodating. I had such a great day taking everything in and would recommend booking with Emiko who is very knowledgeable of the area and provided some great information and also some suggestions for the next part of my trip :)

Ken was our tour guide and he was great. My wife hurt her ankle bad right before the tour and he adjusted and was super kind about it. He talked about the area like a well informed and self aware local who was proud of the city he lives in. We covered new and ancient culture in detail with plenty of stops and reccomendations.

My daughter and I enjoyed exploring Harajuku with Rei. She made things easy to navigate and less intimidating, as well as introduced us to areas that we would not have found on our own. The area was very busy so I'm glad we opted for a tour guide. We shopped, enjoyed street foods, as well as a quick bite and some time at the Owl Cafe. I had many good conversations with her about our life in the US, as well as learned about her life in Japan. The tour was very flexible depending on our interests. Thank you Rei for the excellent tour. It was a pleasure spending time with you!

My 7 year old son and I had a fun and really insightful tour around Harajuku! Emiko (our tour guide) speaks exceptional English, and she is so friendly and knows the Harajuku area very well. Emiko adapted our tour to suit our interests. She was flexible as to where we ate lunch on the day and knew many different options for food. My son had a lot of fun going to a cotton candy store, a public mural wall that he could draw on himself, and last of all the local Owl Cafe! I enjoyed absorbing the atmosphere, shopping at some great stores, and chatting with Emiko about the history of the Harajuku area. All-up, we had a great time and wish we could have spent more time with Emiko exploring the area some more!

Our tour guide, Yumi, was wonderful. Despite having the sakura season crowds, she expertly guided us around Harajuku. Yumi was very patient and receptive to my family’s interest. Would highly recommend!

Fun experience in Harajuku- we got to see animal cafés, hidden shops and cool photo opportunities. Emiko helped greatly for translation services and showed us one of kind places.
