We booked this sake orientation whilst we were in Tokyo for the Rugby World Cup in November 2019 & were very pleased with the experience.
As part of a small group of fellow western travellers, the sake sommelier walked us through a structured sit down tasting of a selection of sakes, pointing out the reason why they were so different, due to the many variables in how they were made.
The guide had excellent English & struck a good balance over the 2 hours in passing on his wisdom as well as answering the many questions from the group.
The most relevant part was to make observations about the key characteristics of each sake & so how would it best be used with food.
The highlight for me was the tasting of a 23 year old vintage dated sake.
The class is strongly recommended as an insight in sake.

Going into the sake tasting session we really knew nothing about sake, but we left with an appreciation for it's history, how it's made, and the different types that lead to it's many different flavours. Nathan was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helped us identify what our favourite type of sake was so that we could find the perfect bottles to take home with us.

My partner and I went for a sake tasting in Shinjuku and it was fantastic! Giulia was very knowledgeable and fun, engaging without being too overwhelming on information. I highly recommend these tours as they make navigating Tokyo fun and stress free. The city is so large and the options for exploring the city are overwhelming, it’s definitely worth the investment to book a guided tour/tasting with a friendly guide.

We went to this saké testning and didnt really know what to expect. As two swedes visiting Japan and Tokyo for the first time, we figured we just as well learn as much as possible about Saké by someone who knows everything about it. That someone was our host Nathan. It was a really great and genuine experience! Nathan was a real professional and guided us around in the world of saké. More so, he also teached us a lot about Japan and japanese culture. Highly recommended!! (Ps. The trip there was really easy and convenient)

GREAT SAKE TASTING WITH GREAT PEOPLE!
With Giulia this experience has been simply amazing!! We laughed a lot together while she was serving sake and explaining how to make it.
For 2 italian guys just arrived in Tokyo, it was a bit hard to get there!
It took us a bit from Tokyo Terminal to get there but it worth it !
Tiny characteristic bar outside Tokyo CBD close to heaps of shops around! You have the chance to taste sake that you won’t find anywhere else!
Lots of jokes and laughs as well! :D :D :P
I really recommend to everyone NinjaFood Sake Tasting Experience !!!

Consuming sake had always been a hit or miss for me. I'm often hesitant to order sake in the restaurant or bar even because I'm not sure if I was going to be pleasantly surprised or deeply disappointed. So when I signed up for this class last week I was determined to put my fears behind me... and I have to say I certainly felt like I have :)! The class was held in a sake bar and so we had plenty of access to different kinds of sake. What I like most about the class is that it was not just educational but it was quite fun too. I came out of the class understanding what I like and didn't like. What I should expect when I order certain type of sake off menu, what type of food I can even pair it with to elevate the taste or smoothen it for that matter. My absolute favourite type is the junmai daiginjo (unpasteurized) sake. Fell simply in love with it and I couldn't help asking for extra servings. Thank you Yuma for this amazing session!! I would definitely recommend this tour before venturing into the sake world right away. It can be a scary world out there but a worthwhile trip after getting the "map" here with Ninja tours :)
