I stayed at Jolly Beach between March 7-14th. First the good part. The food was above my expectations although breakfest had a limited menu. The staff try hard but they need more of them. Julian the on site manager is great if you have issues go to him forget the front desk. the weather was great no rain. Now the bad:
1- Check-in- Be sure to understand there are extra charges you pay $10US a day to have your room cleaned. There is a state tax about $7US a day.
2- Front desk staff- No other way to put this they are not trained at all. Total lack of urgency to handle issues. The supervisors are not trained to handle complaints and take them seriously. The best example to provide was two days before I was leaving my room was not cleaned for a second time. I marched to the front desk and with dirty towels asked why my room was not cleaned except for leaving clean towels in a plastic bag. The front desk asked do I want my room cleaned and I said no I wanted to get some rest and please do not disturb me. Forty five minutes later a knock on my door it is the cleaning person to clean my room. Back to the front desk I march and ask to speak to the supervisor, I am told she is clocking out and I demanded to speak with her. I told her what happened and the first thing she says I am lying. My response is why would I do this? I said either the staff are stupid or total lack of communication. I asked to speak to the manager of the resort. Also, I had to wait at least 15 minutes each time to complain at the front desk as people checking in and out. No dedicated person to handle guests already in the hotel.
3- My Room- The broken door latch was never fixed, I got the wrong key for the safe(apparently they do not know what lock fits what room), my toilet broke and room infrequently cleaned. No other rooms were available.
4- The Resort Manager- I got treated fairly when I met the manager and he reviewed the facts as stated above. No issue there.
I tried for 5 days to give the place the benefit of the doubt but ended up being disappointed and will not return. I guess in summary buyer beware.

This was a very expensive experience and not worth the cost. Ironically, the resort cancelled our visit as we were driving there, which we should have taken as an omen really, but we carried on as we were already on the road and full of expectation. Security was not allowed by Reception let us in initially but eventually he did contact management to sort us out. The resort is very tired. It’s all in in more ways than one! The food was poor: in the pizzeria, chicken noodle soup and chicken arrigata was served cold and inedible. The pizza was fine. Chicken wrap at the grill was adequate. Drinks of course were fine but no decaf tea or coffee. Toilets were unclean, men’s had no toilet roll. No activities on offer. Not allowed to kayak “because it was too rough” - see photo! Basically, a very expensive patch of sand rented for the final day of holiday with a few drinks!

This resort has been closed for three years. It open on December 22, 2022.
There are over 400 rooms but we were told that only 100 were open. It was nice having the beach, almost, to ourselves though. There is still MUCH work to be done. Our bathroom wasn't very nice. There are two pools but only one was open but no one swam in it ? In order to get our rooms cleaned we had to pay an extra $10.00 A a day. On the whole our meals were very good. We did have safes in our room. On our last day there was a sign at the front desk telling people where meals were being served daily. This would have been very helpful had we had it on our first day. Sometimes we felt that the staff weren't informed on all the changes going on at the resort. We had wonderful bartenders !!! Sandino, Kenisha and Petrina. Thank You for being so nice. All the employees were very friendly and caring. My Husband gave the resort a 1 1/2. We got what we paid for ... If you do get to Antigua and need a taxi please call Lyscome 774-4847 or Neil Evanson 268-726-0633. Both are wonderful guides who told us so much about their island. Thank You Guys !

We were at Starfish Jolly Beach from Feb 1-15, 2020. The airport transfer and check-in process went smoothly. However, there was a problem with the key for the room safe, which required trip to the front desk, as the phone in our room did not work. (each time we had a problem, and there were a few, we had to take stairs down to front desk- no elevator)
Our room was on the 4th floor, with a wonderful ocean-front view...and that's the only positive aspect of the room! The door was not very secure, with visible cracks all around. In fact, it rained a fair bit during our stay, and the rain flooded our room (had to sop it up with bathroom towels). Air conditioner very noisy and didn't work well. We had a king bed made up with queen sheets that did not stay tucked in, revealing a lumpy and itchy mattress pad. The thin bedspread was old and ratty. There was no dresser to put our clothes away. Concrete shelves gave an appearance of what the rock ages, which the Flinstones may have found posh! There was no fridge in the room, which in this day and age, is not acceptable.I went to front desk and was told I could rent fridge for $50US. However, when the guy showed up with the fridge there was nowhere to plug it in! You can't drink the tap water, and they don't provide bottled water, so we had to lug ice to our room every day and evening.
The bathroom was rather tiny, and the shower consisted of a small tiled stall with a dingy, cheap plastic curtain. During our 2 week stay, we rarely had hot water to shower (room temp). There is no plug in the bathroom at all to use a hair dryer, which oddly enough, is stored in the closet. There's no window in the bathroom. A screen was loosely tacked over decorative holes in the concrete blocks on the wall (you could hear everything from outside, and people walking by could surely hear us doing our bathroom business!!!).
We didn't starve, but the food was just sub-par. There was not much variety. Service staff in the main dining room were pleasant. Spoons were rarely available for coffee/tea. Overall, the bartenders were great, especially Zaida. However, there were 2 that didn't seem to be enjoying their job much (older lady working day shift at main bar, and older man working evening at main bar).
We are seasoned travellers, and this has been our least favorite holiday. We asked to upgrade and were told we would be placed on the wait list (this was at a surcharge of $88 per night...) We did not end up changing rooms and despite the above, we made the best of our vacation. We enjoyed the touring the island by catamaran; we walked to the local super market, strolled down the beautiful beach and took the bus to St John's. We also strolled down Jolly Harbor and had a wonderful dinner at the Crow's Nest. As I said, we made the best of our vacan, BUT, we will never go back to this resort, which needs major renovation!
Over all, staff were pleasant, polite and attentive.

We stayed for two weeks Jan/Feb 2020. Terrific beach and pool complex. Plenty of beach and pool beds, but they need more umbrellas. There are shops and vendors on the beach who sold all types of products and trips.Food in all restaurants was better than we expected, very good service from all staff. Entertainment was good fun, the staff tried really hard to make the evenings fun. Various games during the day but no pressure to join in. Our room was 2011, which was on the small side but had a great view. We had a few issues which were addressed very quickly, however we had to change rooms after the A/C stopped working. We did one trip, the round island Catamaran which was a great way to see the island, we booked though Wesley but there are many options to buy.

I have been to the Caribbean many times before but never to Antigua. We stayed at the Jolly Beach Resort which was very clean, well staffed, spacious and very friendly. Everyone was very welcoming from the first day and made us feel at home. Anything you needed was always available on site within a few minutes of asking.
The white sandy beaches were beautiful and the ocean glowed that vibrant blue-green colour you see in documentaries. The food was great and there was always that Caribbean flair in every dish weather it was breakfast, lunch or dinner. I was originally apprehensive at first with dining options as I have multiple dietary restrictions, but had no problem finding great meals.
We took a local bus into the city and discovered some wonderful places. We went to the local heritage museum for some history of the island, visited an old church that was beautiful and under renovation, stopped at Hemingway’s for lunch (which I highly recommend) and then headed to to the market to find some goodies.
The entertainment at the resort was FANTASTIC and we loved the evening of “Carnival” and fire dancers during our stay. We rented a car for a day and took a self guided tour. We drove through the mountains and went to Devil’s Canyon and then toured the country side for the rest of the day. On our way back to the resort we found a beachside snack bar and decided to stop for a drink and watch the sun almost set. We visited St.John’s Harbour, toured Nelson’s Dock Yard Unesco World Heritage site, and Skullduggery Cafe! We had a blast in Antigua and highly recommended this place to visit!
Thank you to everyone in Antigua that made our stay so fantastic, but especially to my sweet “singing” friend Judith that sang me through breakfast every morning and always put a smile on my face and an extra pep to my step!!! Xo

My husband and I came here for our one year anniversary. Antigua itself is beautiful. The resort was such a disappointment and ruined the trip. There are no elevators so you have to constantly go up and down the stairs. There is no room service. Our air conditioner didn’t work for two days and we got moved to a lower floor when I paid extra to be on the top floor. We lost our lockbox key the first day we were there and had to pay $30 for a new one. The next day we found the keys and they refused to refund our money. The rooms have a lot of rust and chipping in them and so do the pools. I didn’t feel relaxed at all being in that resort. The beach was beautiful and the island is beautiful but if I ever went again I would never stay in that resort.
