We went on this tour after seeing a couple of other reserves/game parks. This was the most authentic experience because you could really walk in proximity of animals. Our guide Craig has also given us a good deal of background information about animals and SA in general. It's highly recommended if you don't search for 'Zoo' type of experience.

We were planning to feed some giraffes at an alternative location but it got cancelled due to flooding so we came here instead. This proved to be a great decision as we had a great time.
You effectively go on a 90 minute game drive with half of the time devoted to walking with a herd of giraffes (collective term tower?). You are driven around in a relatively open 4x4 following tracks or off road when the animals are spotted.
We really enjoyed seeing the giraffes although you obviously can’t get too close.
In addition we saw a number of different deer (springbok etc), zebra, buffalo and wildebeest.
My wife gets car sick so can never do a full game drive so this was ideal.

All I can say is WOW! we had the most incredible weekend at the Swartberg Game Reserve with Giraffe walks. The staff were so accommodating and our guide Craig was incredible. The giraffe whisperer! We had such awesome encounters with not only giraffe but with Buffalo and many types of buck. The vegetation is magnificent and it's the best place to be to escape the city. A true bush experience and can't wait to be back!

This could have been the opportunity of a lifetime, but possibly due to hunting on the reserve the animals are extremely wary of the vehicle and people. Instead it was reduced to a few minutes near the giraffes while trying to stay clear of buffalo (which had all congregated to be fed) and glimpses of a variety of antelope in the distance as they fled the approaching vehicle.
Koos, our guide was very knowledgeable and had a keen eye for spotting game in the distance. He was very personable and did a fair job in what I'd call difficult circumstances due to the shyness of the game.
On balance this was overpriced for the experience. By comparison a 2hr sunset game drive with refreshments and snacks in the Cape Mountain Zebra Park is R360 per adult. My experience on that was to see far more game that was completely unafraid of the vehicle and thus much much closer.

Our tour guide, Koos, was great. This tour was, I am sorry to say, overpriced and not worth R650 per person. We saw more wildlife next to the road than on the farm and the giraffe walk was getting out of the vehicle and standing there looking at the giraffes grazing a little further away while Koos shared very interesting facts about them. That was the extend of the tour :(

My wife and I visited the amazing Swartberg game reserve where we were hosted by Peggy and Craig on a Giraffe walk as well as a game drive. They organized us accommodation near by the reserve and it was very easy to get to. The place was just pure magic. Craig and Peggy's knowledge of the area and animals is something that’s stemmed from a deep passion for the bush and wildlife. We felt extremely safe and this place offers something for everyone, young and old. We left with joy in our hearts and will definitely be back in the future!!

We spent two really special hours being driven by Craig around a tiny portion of the 7000 hectares in the Reserve. Unlike so many "safaris"s where you find yourself in a convoy of vehicles, we were the only LandRover out there which made it particularly magical. The variety and quantity of game we saw far exceeded our expectations, including prancing Springboks, Cape Zebra, and really close encounters with Buffalo and a beautiful group of Giraffes. We were even lucky enough to see a Courtship Dance with a pair of Blue Crane, something which Craig has only seen three times in the 20 years he has lived there. Ironically though, another of the real highlights was Craig himself. His knowledge of and passion for the Reserve and its wildlife was infectious and the simplest questions would be answered with illuminating and comprehensive answers. He seemed to take a genuine pleasure in sharing his knowledge and we felt we had engaged in his re-wilding project rather than just being passive observers. Add to that his charming personality, and it was a late afternoon we will treasure for a long time. Utterly brilliant value for money.
