The Heritage Railway experience was a disappointment. You get a short trundle down a length of track that covers a very small proportion of the overall site, then you mill about for 15-20 mins whilst they turn the train around and you return down the same piece of track.
The staff were wonderful and did share some interesting nuggets in the time available, but for the price point its really not good value for money. The website is misleading because it doesn't make clear that if you're selecting the Railway option you aren't able to visit any of the rest of the site, even just to walk around.
Had high hopes for learning more about this (potentially) interesting place, but was left wanting.

A very interesting ride on a real narrow gauge train. Very knowledgeable staff with interesting historical information about the train, the island and the plantation. I thoroughly enjoyed the history of the plantation and the rum tour. If you enjoy learning about history this is a tour for you!

Must do tour costs US$25 per head. Short train ride which stops for 20 mins to see great sea views over mini Scotland and returns to base. Full of history and evocative coaltar smells. Good tour guides talk you through it.

Its about 15 minutes each way through extremely beautiful countryside. The train itself is great. Staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Half point is a great scenic view over the coast.

Had a great trip on the steam train. The staff were great, very informative about the area and trains in Barbados through time, also very funny. Got to blow the whistle on the train which was fun.

We had an amazing tour and train ride at Saint Nicholas Abbey. First we rode the train to Cherry Tree Hill which is an overlook of the eastern coast line. At this location a roundhouse turns the locomotive around in the opposite direction back to the visitor center. Next we toured the plantation house and rum distillery which is still in operation. The taxi ride from the Sandals resort is about an hour our taxi driver took two different routes up and back to provide amazing island tour. Highly recommend if your are planning a trip to Barbados.

What a beautiful house & wonderful train ride - all done with so much love & care by the dedicated family Waaren. We loved meeting Simon & had a delicious lunch in the beautiful tropical setting. Oh and all staff, especially Desmond was great too!!

We much enjoyed the whole visit to the estate. The railway was an unmissable part, taking us through pleasant grounds to a spectacular viewpoint. Everyone loves a steam train!

The house is in a beautiful location and is well maintained. It has much to offer for history lovers but also for people wanting only to know a bit more about Barbados.
The railway tour is a must do experience and it's worth the cost of it.
The minor negative comes from the café/restaurant where despite a limited choice we had a nice lunch but it took way too much time

Is it possible to book it on a cruise? How close to the cruise ship terminal? We have 7 adults, 5 children and 2 infant age. Also, how do we go about booking the combo of the Great House Tour and Distillery? I didn’t see it as an option.

It is probably a good hours drive from the cruise terminal in Bridgetown. We booked the combo through Viator, only place I was able to find that offered all 3, hope this helps.
