This was an amazing tour. The driver, John, and the guide for the hike, Bertha, were extremely kind.

My family and I are avid travellers and have explored North/South/Central Americas, Caribbean, Australia/NZ, Europe and Asia. We have been on many tours, both private and group. We are adventurous people and want to have value for our tours and understanding the culture and country we are visiting. Typically, before I travel with a guide/group, I like to see how their response time and communication would be to ensure they will be there when I meet with them. John at Paradise Excursions was prompt and excellent in answering my questions from abroad and we booked him for our private tour of St. Lucia.
He met us at our hotel at Rodney Bay right on time (actually even early) in his comfortable mini-van. He was prepared with drinks and was kind to open the doors at all times. Since we booked on a Sunday, there was no issues with traffic nor cruise patron crowds. He took the time to explain the history of Castries, went to the Church and parks along the way. Sadly, the market was closed that day but there were some vendors to purchase some mangos.
John was informative and we had stops at fishing villages Anse La Raye and Canaries. Also looked at a banana plantation and also Cocoa store and bought some fancy chocolates for my family. From there we went to a vendor in front of her house, Lucinta and bought some amazing homemade sauces…especially banana ginger and banana garlic. Can’t wait to cook with these. Had great pictures of the Pitons and John was creative with his shots. We had a lovely but winding drive to Soufriere where John explained the history.
Our adventure started with Tet Paul hike ($10 USD pp entrance fee). Our guide was Danny. FYI, there are 2 hikes. One is run by a women who seems to be only running it for herself (DON’T GO WITH THIS ONE), since she decided to make her own trail and not support the community (she is an ex-pat of St. Lucia). And the other is run by the community (look for the RED signs) and this is run by the community, where all the proceeds go to the community…for the children, widows, environment etc. Danny was informative-explaining the local vegetation, fruit, farmlands, Pitons. The hike was easy and the views were spectacular. We decided to keep it easy and hike the Pitons.
We then had a short walk and enjoyed Piton Falls and the pools ($3USD/pp) and wasn’t busy and the temperature of the springs was about 30C. Very comforting and relaxing with the views. We did go to Diamond Falls and Botanical Gardens ($10USD/pp) and had a lovely walk and John was helpful with the foliage (he is a plant enthusiast) and took some great pictures. It definitely was not busy. There is also some dipping pools but didn’t want to do another since we really enjoyed the Piton falls.
One of our favourite stop was the Beacon Restaurant. There is an amazing view of the Pitons while you dine. The buffet was fantastic and would be good for a vegan/vegetarian. There are soups, potatoes, beans, rice, salads, fish, chicken, tamarind and lemonade and dessert. The service was friendly and the cuisine was divine. Nearby was a short walk to Marantha Garden (free), which was a prayer/serenity garden that would be great for meditation and collect your thoughts. It was peaceful and the walk was easy.
On our was back to our hotel, I had hoped to go to Anse Chascanet for snorkelling but wasn’t able due to timing. We did stop off at Marigot Bay and look at where Pirates of the Caribbean and Dr. Doolittle was filmed. John also donated all the drinks that we didn’t drink to the local kids at the tourist stops to establish good values for these kids. This drive back was easy through Castries and since we had not established form of payment…there was an awkward…oops since we assumed we can pay by credit but was able to get some cash from the local bank’s ATM. Overall, John was great, informative, polite and it seemed like everyone knew him. I would not hesitate to book him again the next time we are in St. Lucia.

Spent the day seeing the amazing island of St Lucia. It took some driving to get to the Pitons so be prepared to look out of a mini-van window for awhile. Only one road around the island so sit back and enjoy the views. We stopped along the way to meet locals, take photos, and buy things. The Stairway to Heaven trail is quite the 1/2 mile hike up the mountain. But the view at the top is worth a little bit of sweat. The mud bath was fun.

Today we walked the Stairway to Heaven walk with wonderful and informative guide Denver, I couldn’t recommend this enough. The walk was built by the local community and is run solely by members of the community all of whom are born and raised right on the reserve. Denver told us about all the local fruit and crops grown here as well as all the animals that live here (no snakes don’t worry). This walk will forever be a fond memory of all of our made even more special by Denver.

We hiked both Gros Piton and Tet Paul. Tet Paul was way more scenic! Absolutely lovely views, and only a 45 minute hike. Also only cost $10 instead of $50 for Gros Piton. Well worth the money.

Sure, you could absolutely walk this on your own, but we really enjoyed our guide, Denver. He was knowledgeable, upbeat, and positive. Denver was patient and encouraging as he checked in on everyone who was on the tour. We had some individuals who needed a slower pace, and Denver made sure no one was ever left behind. Seeing the Pitons was something that was very important to us, and this tour delivered that ten-fold. The views are some of the most beautiful in all of the Caribbean. The fresh fruit and fritters were so yummy and a nice way to end the tour. Thank you for a very enjoyable way to enjoy Saint Lucia.

What a fabulous tour! Could you take the walk yourself? Sure. But having an amazing guide like Bertha is even better. We are not tour people. However, her wealth of knowledge of the area, the foliage and how to use a camera were incredible. The hike is moderate. There are some steps, but anyone without mobility issues could do this hike. Don't miss out! And ask for Bertha!

This trail offers an alternative to hiking the Pitons. The trail is adjacent to the pitons so the views are spectacular. The guides can identify different plants and provide some information
Near the end of the hike is a replica of a traditional house which is very interesting

We are proudly the oldest and youngest to ever make the Tete Paul climb! My hubby and I climbed with my mom, mother in law and 3 year old daughter. John was our tour guide and it was so beyond lovely. Excellent education on the foliage and the culture, and the view was simply breathtaking at multiple spots. The beat 360 view of St. Lucia. This is a must during your visit.

How long and difficult is the Tet Paul nature trail ? And if you’ve rented a vehicle can you go straight to the nature trail and pay there and just get a guide ?
