We booked direct with ERA and got first rate support. Originally booked for March 2020 when pandemic hit. This devastated the Halong Bay operators but refunds were prompt. When we reschedule our trip for Oct 2023 they continued to be highly responsive on pricing and service. Most Halong Bay cruises extremely similar in terms of scenery. We chose Era because its rooms were larger/nicer than most other boats for comparable prices, and were very happy with our choice.

I would not say it is a luxurious cruise. No swimming pool on the deck, and food selection is quite scarce especially for us, Muslims. The arrangement is not synchronized. I had been dealing with tons of emails before the departure and when I arrived, they still got my name wrong. The lead tour, Duck could have been slightly nicer (found him to be fierce and sometimes rude when asked more questions). The program and activities were a little bit boring. Took us swimming and kayaking in a dirty part of the ocean. My towel got stained during the trip, and when asked for a new towel from the guide, Andrew, he refused to lend another with an excuse only one towel for one guest (although there were only 5 people in our group and they had around 40 towels on the boat). Viet Hai Village was the only fun thing on the trip. People who only stay for 1 night will not do Viet Village and the Bat Cave is really boring. I found a one-night itinerary is a bit too rushing though. The only thing I liked was the bathtub with jacuzzi inside my room by the glass window. Other than that, it was just okay and it was not a great experience for me.

Firstly, the 45 minute transfer to what is supposed to be one of the premium cruises in Ha Long Bay is poor considering much cheaper boats manage to get to the harbour. The boat when you arrive they say “here is your boat!” Very enthusiastically to a lukewarm reception at best. The boat looks old and tired, but the bedrooms are done to a high standard. Lunch is decent when you arrive it’s all served to you. Then the dinner is a buffet and if you’re there 2 nights it will be the same both nights. If you’re on 2 nights you will be woken up at 5am by a loudspeaker waking up those on a 1 night tour for their sunrise trip to some caves. Then you get breakfast all together before those on one night are taken back to the harbour, and you are forced off the boat too because you’re going on an excursion no one wanted all day on a poorer boat that those on boats that cost half the price are also doing. Again no choice in this because they want you out of the way while they welcome the next group. After having the same dinner as the night before you want to go to bed early because again 5am wake up call and this time they want you in the caves too. Then after breakfast it’s back to the harbour. So how on Earth they call this a 3 day tour when it starts and ends within 48 hours I have no idea. Also, you’ve paid for a nice cruise but they want to keep you off it as long as possible.
On the first day we saw an Australian couple demand to be taken off the boat and brought back to sure immediately they we so disappointed.
Where to improve? Stop the crazy turnover of guests with 1 and 2 night packages offered, just offer 2 nights and give people the choice of a day excursion or relaxing with the views of Ha Long they actually paid for. More staff that speak English. Get rid of the Christmas decorations all year round it’s weird, thank you.

Duc is a fantastic and funnyman. He makes our day more fun and enjoyable. The staff are all friendly and social able. Very well trained staff. The room is clean and comfortable. Food can be improved. I enjoy kayaking with the help of the staff.

This was such an amazing experience! Era Cruise did not disappoint. Duc was our Cruise Director and was FANTASTIC! He made the experience really special and thoughtful. The activities were perfect--highly recommend doing 2 nights so you can do the day trip (including biking, swimming and kayaking). The staff were so helpful and warm and the room was luxurious! The best bathroom I saw in all of Vietnam. Highly recommend this trip. It also didn't feel very touristy because we were farther out in the bay.

Beautiful view, luxury cruise minh on the era 1, nice service from Era cruise team, outside of the cruise we tried kayaking 🛶 and swimming🏊🏻♀️, that was an amazing experience🥰, for food there was plenty of choice in the restaurant (like a buffet lunch, dinner) with an master chef😋. Also spent a beautiful night on the rooftop😍

Great experience with the cruise. Catba island is must visit. Cycling at the catba is the best part. Duc and his staff were really good. Fully dedicated and highly motivated to serve their guests.

Beautiful boat; wish we spent more time on the large boat. We booked 2 King Terrace Suite. These rooms definitely lived up to the photos on their website. They were large and beautiful. The boat is quite spacious.
We booked the 3D/2N cruise. I was expecting to expecting to spend more time on this beautiful boat. However, the itinerary has you transfer to a smaller boat the 2nd day. You don't spend the 2nd day on the Era but on a smaller boat. What a waste. I've uploaded the itinerary for reference. I really wanted to just enough our beautiful room view.
Pro - very attentive staff. Duc, who was the manager, was great. He met us at the docks and was with us until the departure. He was managed every aspect of the cruise.
HaLong Bay is beautiful. These amazing little islands in a vast ocean. The down side is there is a lot of garbage in the water. The other thing is, you're in this beautiful boat looking out from your state room when a little lady rows up and offers to sell you drinks. It's nice that she offers but definitely ruins the mood. I appreciate your offer as the drinks on the boat are crazy $$$. We bought beer, chips, and water from her. Just wish her boat didn't come as often.
The cruise offers lots of activities, sometimes too much. I would recommend trying to get in a sunrise if you can. It's worth the photos. However, you don't have to do all the activities. It's just too much.
Con - I mentioned you spend your 2nd day on a smaller boat for your excursions. The other con is the drinks on the Era are $$$. In reading other reviews, it's the same on all the other cruises. I just wish they would include at least water or soda for the kids. Their cocktails are ok. I found their whiskey sour to be light.
Squid fishing was a dud. We saw some squid but no one on our cruise catch any. In talking with the crew, those fish are so well fed, they're not going to go for no bait hooks:)
Food - the food on board the Era was nice. They offered the same breakfast for both day. I won't say it's too fancy but it also wasn't too bad. There was oysters and clams offered for dinner. They also had a wonderful coconut ice cream. If you're on the 3d cruise, you'll get a lot of the same stuff.
Transfer from Hanoi - we booked transfer to/from Hanoi to Era vai Halong Bay tours. It was a 2 hrs drive one way. Not much to see or say.
Would I do it again? Probable not a 3d/2n cruise. I really wanted to enjoy just sitting on this beautiful boat enjoying Halong bay as the boat cruised around.
