We had a brilliant time with Luis and would throughly recommend this to anybody! The food was fantastic and served in places that we would never have gone to as tourists. Luis clearly knew lots of local people, and explained the history behind the dishes, ingredients and relevance to local history and culture. We've done a few of these food tours, and this was probably the best. Luis was also a great guy to spend a few hours with. Excellent all round.

Pros: 1) We ate very good authentic food where locals eat: salbutes, tacos (including shawarma-style), chile relleno, jugo, horchata, and paletas. 2) The guide was friendly and thoughtful, as was the other couple on the tour. 3) We also saw much of the non-touristy Tulum, which many tourists probably never see on other Tulum Viator/Tripadvisor tours.
Cons: 1) Both of us speak Spanish fluently as a second language. I have even lived in Latin America. So we wanted to be in and signed up for the Spanish-speaking group, knowing we can learn more in that language as words and concepts can be, as the saying goes, “lost in translation.” I would have found the experience much more enriching in Spanish. However, when we arrived and went to the Spanish group, they directed us to go to the English-speaking group, suggesting the Spanish-speaking group was full. That should not have been because we signed for the Spanish group and we should have been 2 of the maximum of 10 in the group. In reality, I’m guessing they simply wanted to move us to the English-speaking group because they had only 2 people in that group without us. Instead of apologizing and asking us to move to the English group, they acted like we had signed up for the English group, which I found disrespectful. I was very irritated at this poor customer service and didn’t enjoy having my time wasted with being told rather basic Spanish language translations, which the other couple on the other tour needed. In the Spanish group, that time could have been devoted to learning new things for us. 2) At the end, the guide asked us to give him a 5 star review and, if we didn’t think the tour deserved 5 stars, to give no review at all, which I thought was a rather unprofessional thing to ask. Moreover, if they didn’t honor our request to be in the Spanish group, I thought it was only fair to not honor his request…
Recommendation to business: Put customers in the group they signed up for. I can’t believe they have to be told something so obvious, but they do. That’s the least they could have done when we paid $150. An overall poor review is deserved.

My wife and I had a fantastic time on this food tour around Playa Del Carmen. Our host, Enrique, was extremely charming and knowledgeable about the local area and its rich history. We spent a lovely evening wandering around
We sampled the delicious local food and learned more about the area. We tried lots of different types of tacos and local delicacies. My favourite was the tamales! It was very well organised, with Enrique providing plenty of drinks as it was quite a warm evening. It was nice to go to areas off of the tourist trail that felt very safe and we felt welcomed by the local community. I would highly recommend this tour if you'd like to learn more about the region and enjoy really tasty Mexican food! Thank you Enrique, you were a fantastic host and we had a great evening.

Amazing tour! Our guid Luis was very informative and friendly. He introduced us to the local food and explained how it is prepared in details. The food was excellent. It included different meat varieties, vegetables, smoothies, and dessert.

This tour was amazing, Laura was so fun and informative. The food we tried was delicious and we got to taste so much! She also gave us excellent recommendations to try ourselves after, would highly recommend to anyone coming to tulum.

We were lucky to have our food and city tour with Tulum life-long local Laura. Laura elevated this experience into something memorable with her love of the city, in-depth knowledge of the rich culture, history, and changing environment of the town. She shared inspiring details of each stop, making this tour much more than just eating great tacos but really provided a snapshot of life in Tulum. She was was also incredibly accomodating, giving advise on where else to check out, helped us buy a great bottle of tequila, and was overall a wonderfully friendly guide for the evening.

We learned so much during this 3 hour tour! Adrian was so knowledgeable about each dish, restaurant, and history of the food and ingredients. We walked all around downtown Tulum and went to restaurants we would’ve have ventured to otherwise! Be prepared it is a lot of walking and can get hot! This didn’t impact our time, but for others it can be a challenge! The food was delicious and each stop was different than the last! Can’t recommend this tour with Adrian enough!

We booked this food tour based on reviews on here and was really disappointed with the food spots they took us to. Our tour guide was okay but the food they took us to was the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had.
All the stops they took us to were super cheap… 1 taco each person. 75/pp USD was a huge rip off plus tip for the tour guide. For that price, I regretted not going to a nice restaurant. The elote vendor they took us to, the corn is boiled! We threw it away. The tamales also were gross…definitely had better in LA..even Al pastor taco was just ok.
Save your money and go dine at a nice restaurant for the money! Was also miserable walking around in the heat.

Our guide Adrian was great - friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The tour included stops at restaurants, carts and a market and was a perfect way to get familiar with Tulum via local food.

I am sure that the trip organizers could better answer your question. We had no such restrictions or food allergies. They are very amenable and as well, there are very many stops along the way with different food choices. If you do not wish to eat at a particular stop, just do not eat there. Enjoy the experience.

I am allergic to cilantro, would this tour be able to accommodate me?

If you ask your tour guide to order the items without cilantro, I think you'd be ok. When we went to various Taco restaurants, the guide ordered a sample of different tacos and explained how it was made (type of meat, main ingredients, etc.). Unlike the Mexican cuisines in the US, the food in Tulum was made with more variety of ingredients, and I didn't see excessive use of cilantro. There are so many varieties of dishes (meals, desserts, drinks, etc.) even if you skip one particular restaurant, you'd be still very full after the tour.
Will I need to pay for the food, or it already included?

If you are talking about the food tour, everything is included. All you have to do is eat & learn about the local culture. However, you are responsible for paying the tip (completely discretionary and very modest compared to US standard) to your guide after the tour.
