New to Kayaking and I enrolled in the Level 1 course with Corri. She is a great instructor and teacher both in paddling skill proficiency and all aspects of group padding and travel preparation.
Learning the correct way to paddle and manage your kayak made such a difference to the joy of skimming thru the water.
Lee and Ocean River staff are super friendly and so helpful. Ocean River equipment is all first class and expertly maintained.
A great experience and builds a great foundation for ongoing skill development.

Went on the discovery island kayak tour during our honeymoon in Victoria. In summary: had an absolutely brilliant time. First of all, you (group of 8ish) and the kayaks are taken out on the shuttle to Discovery Island so you are a little more remote than in the harbour. You are then taken on a walking tour of the island where you learn about the history of the island, take in some incredible scenery and view the local wildlife (seals, cormorants, bald eagles….). You have the opportunity to take a swim in the bay, then you are off on the kayaks around one side of the island. Two guides come with you, one is in the lead kayak and the other is in the shuttle boat observing at a distance and making sure you are safe. The kayaking is relatively gentle and I feel appropriate for beginners. The water was crystal clear and we loved being able to look down and see the kelp forests, crabs and harbour seals swimming beneath you.
The guides were brilliant, made the experience fun and made you feel safe. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for an adventure in Victoria that 99% of the other tours do not provide!

My husband and I did the Discovery Island Kayak tour in July 2022 and we had a great time. We had Lee and John as guides and we had an amazing time. They did all the heavy lifting with the kayaks, ensured the boats had all the safety requirements and gave us paddling tips.
We saw heron, seal, birds, and enjoyed stories about the wolf that used to live on the island and the history of the area.
The paddling itself was excellent, Lee paid close attention to tides and currents to make sure we didn't get into trouble.
I have done a lot of paddling around Victoria and can say this was my favorite trip

We had a wonderful day kayaking around and hiking on Discovery Island with John and Lee. After a short boat ride it felt like we were discovering an uninhabited island - scenic coves, harbor seals, eagles and wild flowers. The trip was expertly organized for fun and safety. The kayaking was a perfect challenge for us with some wind and currents to keep the paddling interesting. A special thanks to Lee who made it possible for us to join the already booked 4 person group.

Wonderful experience. We were a small group of varying kayaking experience. But were all able to enjoy the fabulous scenery and paddling. Big thanks to John our guide who made everyone feel comfortable and confident. His local knowledge and tales made the trip. A very big thank you.

Had a fantastic time kayaking around Discovery Island with "Ocean River Adventures". Out guide, Nick was interesting and passionate about kayaking. He made us all feel "safe" on the water. I would highly recommend the trip to anyone wanting to do something a bit different.

We had a beautiful day kayaking around the lovely Discovery and Chatham Islands. Very touching to see the mural of Takaya. Guides Lee and Jon were extremely knowledgeable and personable. I learned a lot about the area and shared many laughs.

I went with my friend and teenage daughter and she actually loved it! Nick and John were very friendly, knowledgeable and humours. They took their time to make sure we enjoy and we’re confortable kayaking since it was our first time.
We had the opportunity to see around 50 seals, we saw a eagle nest, and many more different birds.
I highly recommended. It is an experience that I will repeat without second thoughts.
I paid for the lunch but we got a last minute email saying the lunch wasn’t included because of Covid 19- so I wish the fee that I paid for the three lunches be redirected to the guides as a tip.
Thank for the amazing experience 🎉

Highly recommend the Discovery Island Kayak tour.
Ocean River picks you up on a their customized pontoon boat full of kayaks and leisurely transports you out to Discovery Island. We enjoyed every moment navigating around and through stunning channels on both Discovery Chatham Island, our certified guide Ben couldn't have been nicer providing us with all sorts of marine knowledge and island history throughout the day and even found us a remote beach with a beautiful view to lunch on. if your looking for a one day adventure this is it!.

This was a wonderful adventure! The scenery was absolutely awesome and Brian was an exceptional guide! We learned so much! Thank you for such an incredible adventure! Highly recommended!
