I try not to remember our visit to Stone Town in too much detail; far too much sensory overload. There could be good things to visit if they were open or well maintained but the overall feel of the place is one of hectic dilapidation where maintaining a sense of hypervigilance is critical if you are to leave it alive. The narrow streets would have a different vibe if there were not mopeds and bikes hurtling along them and the smells you encounter are off the scale. Fortunately we had a guide which was a Godsend in itself as we were able to access the toilets in the overpriced giftshop he shepherded us into after stating that he didn't recommend any of the other stalls/shops (of course not). Fortunately, we managed to avoid entering the market as I anticipated the smell would be unbearable but it did take a while to get away from the sellers outside pushing their products (but having spent 10 days in Zanzibar we had wised up to all of this). The guide was knowledgeble but bored; probaby thinking about the tip at the end. I think had we not had a guide we would have experienced more harrassment so it was worth the price just to avoid it. Overall a hot, hectic, noisy unpleasant place that I am glad I will never have to set foot in again.

La ciudad de piedra de Zanzíbar es una de las ciudades swahilíes del litoral del África Oriental mas pintorescas. Se nota a primera vista que ha conservado su estructura y . paisaje urbanos prácticamente intactos. El centro histórico está situado en una zona separada de la moderna Zanzíbar por un antiguo arroyo, hoy carretera. Es un laberinto .de calles estrechas llenas de bazares, como el de Darajani y mezquitas.La construccion de las viviendas estan. basadas en la piedra coralina que le da un color
rojizo especial a la ciudad. Cuando llueve las pequeñas callejuelas se convierten en un rio. Algo para deleitarse son las grandes puertas historicas de madera con adornos esculpidos de inspiración india u omaní.

Stone town é cheia de diversidade e tem uma vibe muito boa. Rapidamente você se sente em casa...para começar, contrate um guia local para fazer o tour a pé - vale muito a pena para você se localizar na cidade.
Gostamos bastante de nos hospedar bem no centro da cidade, pois conseguimos fazer tudo a pé. Além disso, estávamos perto também de onde saem os barcos para passeio nas ilhas. Foi bem tranquilo encontrar os pontos importantes da cidade.
Você vai ser assediado a todo momento por ambulantes...tenha paciência, mas também tenha cuidado com aqueles que te oferecem ajuda - normalmente eles cobram um valor por te ajudar a encontrar o que você estava procurando.
Aproveite para experimentar a culinária local, a comida de rua e o café.

Stone Town is extremely rich in history and conjures memories about the good old times. From the narrow streets where legendary artistes like Freddie Mercury once strolled to the gigantic Cathedral, Stone Town is amazing. I totally recommend this town fir all lovers of history and good things in life. Get yourself a reliable guide like Suleiman +255 756983 368 and you'll be good to go.

Stone Town is a very lively place where you’ll find a mixture of Arabic, African, Indian and European cultures living comfortably together. As you walk through the labyrinth of streets too narrow for cars to pass, you can see mosques, churches and temples side to side
The best part its the night food market at Forodhan Garden.This place becomes alive everyday from 5 Pm till 12.Filled with delicious seafood ,zanzibar local taste with fresh air blowing from the ocean across the market.

Visiting Stone Town is the best way to interact and experience the rich Zanzibar culture. Stone town is rich in history and offers you an opportunity to peer through ancient Swahili lifestyle that is interesting to learn. I enjoyed walling the narrow streets and being shown around historical places like the big cathedral in the town. The street vendors are friendly but I must warn you of the large number of people in the town, meaning you can get lost easily. If you don't get a reliable guide, you might lose your way around this historical town. I recommend Babli, phone +255756983368 because of his professionalism and experience.

I enjoyed my visit. The quality of the guides varies a great deal but the history here is incredible. The hassling from touts and cabbies can feel overwhelming at times but you will get used to it. Do be aware of pick pockets as I foiled an attempt at my phone on my second day.

Stone town offers you the chance to interact with a rich Zanzibari history that is intertwined with modernity. From the narrow streets and the colorful street vendors, you get a better understanding of the Swahili culture. One interesting thing we learned is that the famous British Singer Freddie Mercury hailed from Stine Town. The Cathedral is also huge and historically important. I thank Babli(+255756983368) my professional guide for his insight and recommendation throughout my stay in Zanzibar. I can assure you that his services are top-notch.

Love the authenticity and vivacity of Zanzibar city. I would recommend getting a local guide to get a better understanding on the history and local culture. We visited the Old Fort, the Slave Market, the Spice Market and some other interesting places. There are lots of shops to buy souvenirs and spices.

The streets were very historical and our guide taught us lots of history of the stone town especially during the slave trade days. Th streets look like an old Arabic town and we really loved it
