While visiting the amazing Orange region of New South Wales my wife and I took part in a tour organised by Country Food Trails. The first step was to visit the Ross Hill Winery and to go behind then scenes to view the winery operations and then to taste some of the local products.
The winery is beautifully appointed and presented. We were met by Isabel who should
be the poster girl for the Australian wine industry. She is a wine industry professional with loads of experience and charm. She took us through the operations of the winery and her deep knowledge was evident from the start. We got to see the barrel rooms, the pressing machinery while absorbing a host of information on the different types of wines grown in this diverse region. The local border collie also kept us amused with her antics.
We were then provided with a flight of wines for tasting guided by Belinda who is an expert on the wines and the histories associated with them.
I tasted a range of red wines and ended up buying a sample bottle of each as they were all delicious.
All in all, this was an excellent start to our farm tour of her Orange region and I would strongly recommend it to those looking for a cool climate wine experience in a well appointed setting.
