This hike was one of the experiences from our Africa trip I will always remember. Having a guide made it so comfortable and easy to have this experience. He also had a ton of history that he included for the down trek. Couldn’t have expected better.

This hike was amazing. A little strenuous in certain areas, but doable. The “chains” part put me off a little, so I chose the other route, but that way was more strenuous than I thought it would be. Given a chance to do it again, I’d probably take the chain route. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and all of the questions that were asked along the way. The only reason that I am giving 4 stars is because the communication in order to set up the pick up time was kind of misunderstood and not really relayed to us until I called twice within 2 days to get the answer. Also, on the information in the hike it says that coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, bottled water and snacks were provided. We did receive a bottle of water at the start of our hike and a mini kit kat candy bar at the top of the hike, while our guide ate a sandwich that he brought. Luckily, we all had brought our own snacks. The price was a little extreme for the guide but we wanted to be safe and not sorry since it was our first time in Cape Town and heard that it could be dangerous. All in all when I return to cape town, I would do this hike again, just with a group to be on the safe side, no guide needed.

The Lions head hike took about 2 hours and it was a perfect start to the day. There were some challenges near the top as you had to pull yourself up on the chains and rungs. Our guide was very helpful and showed you where to step. Unfortunately it was foggy and no view that morning. Otherwise a highly recommended activity that could fit into other day activities in Cape Town

First of all, I have not hiked in the last 10 years and I was traveling solo. :)
Came there with a guide at past 5 am, there was not much crowd and it was not that dark. At first there's a slope thats about 2 mins walk and then you have to climb rocks. Some are built like stairs, some are just big rocks.
The climb looks difficult but it is quite easy. And it is handy that I had a guide, I just had to check out where he steps and I follow.
Along the way, there's the option of a vertical climb with chains up but I chose the spiral way.
The views at the top are fantastic! I had my guide take lots of pictures. I especially like the view with table mountain beyond me. There are also rocks protruding at the top that you can step on and you can dance or really have a good city view or sea view.
Really amazing! When we went down I took the chains cos I thought that will have less stress on my knees. It was manageable. And then at 730 something, a lot of crowds were coming in
