Wow, what an experience!! From booking the tour online all the way through to dropping us off at the hotel, I can safely say it was a breathtaking day.
We booked online with absolute ease, and were given the choice to pay upfront or cash on arrival. Cash on arrival easier for us. Organised pickup over WhatsApp, and we're told 5:35am from our hotel. No problem for us, but then we met another couple and they wanted to go so added them on to our booking with ease.
Coach pulled up 5 mins early and we were greeted by an absolute gentleman Koustas who welcomed us and once we paid gave us our tickets for the Samaria Gorge national park. Koustas was an outstanding tour guide, speaking multiple languages who made it his mission to make sure everyone understood the days itinerary. Once we arrived at the Gorge he allowed everyone to crack on at their own pace and he stayed with the last people all the way down the Gorge. Once we had reached the end, Koustas came and sat down with us and we had a lengthy chat about home, life in crete over refreshments.
We then got on the ferry from Agia Roumelli which is an experience in itself, and Koustas was the last man on board making sure everyone was on. We then sat down and we chatted some more about his Marathons and family.
Koustas then out of nowhere gave myself and my new fiance a gift to celebrate our engagement which happened whilst in the Gorge.
I don't think I've ever come across a tour guide so welcoming, so happy to make sure everyone else was enjoying themselves. His customer service was something special. As for the tour itself, the Gorge is difficult for any hiker but well worth it.

It is a long and challenging hike. Wear sunscreen, good hiking shoes and layered clothing. Hiking poles are very helpful. There is still another mile or 2 after you leave the park to walk to the boat. Very cute little town.

Very beautiful hike, accessible to anyone with a good pair of shoes or sneakers and a good physical condition. We did it in 4 hours with photo breaks. Very few people at this time of year. Nature was ours. Departure in the morning at 8 a.m. arrival at noon. Add 30 minutes to get to Tranquilou beach. I recommend👍

We booked the tour in advance online via the provider's website. You can easily specify that you want to pay on site or pay in advance by credit card. The information and tickets arrived shortly after booking.
Due to unfavorable weather conditions and the associated closure of the park, the tour unfortunately had to be postponed twice. Communication about this went smoothly via email or WhatsApp and tickets for the new dates were sent immediately by email.
On the day of collection, we were picked up by bus directly in front of our hotel in Rethymnon at the stated time (06:25). The guide Costas greeted us warmly. On the way to the Samaria Gorge, Costas collected the amount for the tour (30€/person) as well as for entry to the Samaria Gorge (4€/person) and the ferry (13€/person) in cash. We were given a map of the national park and a detailed introduction to the process. Around 20 minutes before the entrance to the gorge there is a short stop at a tavern. Toilet break and opportunity to buy provisions.
Costas got the tockets at the entrance and handed them out to us. After that we were able to hike through the gorge on our own.
Costas is the last of the group to walk. This ensures that all participants in the tour arrive safely at the exit. You can walk at your own pace and therefore don't have to walk in a group. That would be impossible with a full busload.
It took us almost 5 hours to walk the 15km. You should definitely be sure-footed. Sturdy shoes or, better yet, hiking boots are a must. You should also bear in mind that the route is very long and can be quite challenging for inexperienced hikers. There are many supply stations with water and toilets along the route. I still recommend taking at least 1.5L of water per person. The path in the gorge itself is very long. At the end you can drink the water from the stream without hesitation. It tastes very good.
There is a small tavern and bar at the exit. Around 10 minutes further on there is another bar from which a bus (2€/person) takes tired hikers to the beach. You can also walk the 10 minutes.
At the end of the tour, the beach in Agia Roumeli or one of the taverns invites you to relax. Costas gave us the ferry tickets as discussed. At 5:30 p.m. the ferry left for Sfakia where the bus for the journey home was already waiting for us and took us back to Rethymnon at around 8:30 p.m. as announced.
All in all, a successful day and a superbly organized tour. We felt very comfortable with CheckIn Creta and can recommend this agency without reservation.

Wonderful Excellent attractions for teenagers and children, an excellent show and a beautiful design approach to the park.
The customer support responded very kindly and professionally to our requests for changing tickets.
Having visited so many parks in Europe, America and Asia, I would like to emphasize that the attractions in this park are not inferior to any of them. This park emphasizes its style more in atruction style than in show.

Fantastisk smuk tur, lidt hård for knæ, lægge og baller da man går på glatte sten meget af vejen men usandsynligt smukt. Der var dog en del mennesker så det var kun indimellem man kunne gå for sig selv.
Og så skulle man vente lige lovlig lang tid på færgen - men måske var vi bare for hurtige til at gå turen😂

Kostas was an absolute great driver in mountainous roads. Kostas the guide was extremely devoted to his guests during the trip. He solved every problems with difficult guests. Be prepared as this is a long day. We were picked up at the hotel at 5:15 am and came back past 9:30 pm

Onze reisleider George maakte de reis extra leuk. Hij heeft het veel verteld en liep de kloof zelf ook.
De kloof zelf is goed te doen als je normaal genoeg loopt en een wandeling van 10km niet uit de weg gaat. Onderweg kan je op meerdere plekken je flesje vullen met heerlijk water. Goede schoenen met zooltjes is echt nodig.

Beautiful views! Our team leader Kostas was very friendly and helpful. Gorge is challenging, but it is possible to finish! Best part of Crete for me :) Great experience :)
