Took a day trip from London to visit Cambridge w/my teenage son last week. Went on an afternoon walking tour w/Choo, a graduate student in their law program. Greatly appreciated all of his knowledge as he took us and a small group of visitors around many of the beautiful colleges (exterior only as exams were in progress). He was friendly, knowledgable and patient w/my many questions. Followed the walking tour w/a punting ride on the River Cam w/a different guide. It was a weekday so not crowded. Beautiful, scenic and informative ride beneath the Mathematical Bridge and along some of the Colleges. Some tour members chose to go inside Kings College instead of the punting tour. We did not go inside, but it is absolutely gorgeous on the exterior so I can only imagine... Enjoyed a great brunch at Fitzbillies (very close to where tour starts) beforehand. Would also recommend the nearby and historic Eagle Pub for lunch. Can't go wrong at either!

Sophie was our tour guide on the walking part and she was super friendly and very informative. Easy to walk around, plenty of stops and would be ok for most abilities.
The punting experience was really good fun - Merdo (not sure how you spell that) was our guide on the water and my only criticism would be that the information given on the river was exactly the same as the walking part - would be good to maybe split the facts so you’re not listening to the same thing? Overall, we had a good day but I do think it’s a little overpriced. I just hope most of the money goes to the students!

Anna and Henry were both wonderful tour guides! They were informative, funny, and most importantly friendly! Whoever was supposed to run the walking segment of the tour didn’t show up, but Anna took initiative and lead the walking portion of the tour! They were both amazing!

This was two, different tours with mixed results. The walking tour, led by Naomi was exquisite. She was upbeat, informative in her factual comments, polished in presentation. Her walking pace matched the group needs perfectly. Each stop was presented with connections to an overarching narrative. What a pleasure to learn about Cambridge. On the other hand, our punting tour was generally disappointing. Our punter was “at lunch” for our 2:00 pm tour, so we waited in the boat. We pushed off about 2:15 pm. For reasons never disclosed, our punter pushed us past boat after boat, as if the faster we completed the tour, the better. After his opening comments, which were likewise delivered in rapid fire, one guest from another party in our boat asked if he could speak more slowly. He tried, but tripped over his first attempt to describe one feature of the tour. He promptly realized (and commented) he did not think he pitch the script any slower. Humor mostly fell flat and at least one “fact” (about computer assisted architecture) was off by about a decade, according to the computer engineer in our boat. We got back on time, maybe even ahead of schedule.

The walking tour was good and informative BUT we really wanted to break through some of the college "mystery", it would have been great to see behind the scenes in one or two of the colleges as we have done previously on a walking tour of Oxford. The guide, Becky, was very informative and knew her stuff.
The punting was good fun - but - I did not rate our "punter". I acknowledge that the river was very busy but her commentary was very poor when you heard how other companies/punters were framing the history and providing context e.g. we had gone under the Bridge of Sighs when we were told that is was the Bridge of Sighs (we'd worked it out because it is beautiful compared to the others). Fortunately some of the key points e.g. Mathematical Bridge and the history of the cows in the meadows had already been explained on the walking tour.
In short, walking tour was good and provided great context but we would have would have liked to have got under the skin of the colleges a bit more than we did. Would definitely not go with this company again for a punting tour - would take the risk on booking someone else knowing what I know now. Training on the communication and story telling definitely needs improving.

It was a great experience in Cambridge. Learnt a lot about the history of Cambridge University. Thank you Zara for leading the walking tour.
The punting tour was amazing. It was the best experience in Cambridge. No one should miss punting. Thank you so much Tom for the guide. He was very careful in leading a safe punting as well as the tour was very informative and entertaining.

Small group.
Good pace and long enough at each stop.
Choo was very informative and entertaining on the walking tour.
I'm not sure whether the history of either the walking or the punting was 100% correct as the information and the facts differed by guide so maybe this is more of lighthearted overview rather than historically accurate.
First experience of punting and the river is a little like the M6 in rush hour so not the relaxing experience we anticipated but still enjoyable.
Good pace and long enough at each stop.

Went for the combo walking and punting tour on a busy Jubilee bank holiday.
1. Walking tour-
25 in a group (including kids and the guide) was probably more than what the guide could handle, and although the guide was trying her very best, you could imagine trying to hear narrations within a large group through the crowded streets and landmarks. It would have been so much better to just limit the number of participants in a tour. Otherwise, guide was knowledgeable and the tour was done in a timely manner.
2. Punting tour-
Long queue of people due to the holiday season, but kudos to the team for managing to sort it out after a short 15 minutes. Boat guide was probably tired and frustrated at the number of crowds and the traffic of boats in the canals. Did not engage with the passengers at all, and only did the minimum to explain the landmarks as we passed by them.
In short, walking tour would have been better with less people in a group. Would definitely not go with them for a punting tour again.

The walking tour lasted about 90 min. There were about 16 people booked on our tour - 6 were my own family, 1 was a child of about 6 years old and 2 people didn't turn up. One couple brought a small dog with them. We stopped for our excellent guide to give us facts at various colleges and sites. We walked at quite a brisk pace, but the guide waited for everyone to be ready before starting to speak so there was no danger of missing anything. We went on the punting tour afterwards as well. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. Hope you enjoy your trip.

Hi description said family friendly. We will have a toddler with us and therefore a pram. How does this work with the punting?

I would guess it could be a problem because the punts are very low in the water and because of this lifting the pram into and out of the punt could be an issue. Also you sit almost at water level, eye to eye with the ducks, a pram will sit above your head and block your and other passengers view of the buildings as you glide past. In some areas the trees overhang the river and their branches may drag into the pram.

Hello, the closest parking is at the Grand Arcade.
Is the itinerary between 11:00 and 13:00 be the same? Or is 11:00 tour only be a walking tour without punting since the description in the "tour options" is different with the others?

Dear Darryl,
If you prefer you can make your way by foot which will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Simply type 'Cambridge Alumni Tours' into google maps and you will arrive at the meeting point.
Or alternatively, you can take a taxi from the entrance of the train station and ask your driver to take you to the entrance of King's college on King's Parade where you will see our blue flag. The taxi fare costs approximately £5-8 and will take around 10-15 minutes to arrive depending on traffic.
