Our tour was amazing! Julius was wonderful and we learned so much. Would definitely recommend to anyone who has a few hours to dive into the history of the city. We would have missed so much if we had tried to tour on our own.

Rob is an excellent guide! A credit to Roman Tours! I did his tour on the 3rd September and found him to be extremely interesting, knowledgeable and funny. He injects personality into his tours and is interactive with the guests, which makes all the difference. I found out so much about Roman Chester and would highly recommend people to do this tour, especially if Rob is your guide!

This is a really good tour for getting a “first hand” account of life in Roman Chester.
Our guide, Julius, was very knowledgeable and imparted the information with humour. Somehow, you get the scale of buildings such as the legionaries’ bath house when you walk the distance.
There were numerous stops including the basement of the local Pret. ( I won’t spoil the surprise of what awaits you there.)
Julius was very free with his time and the tour certainly wasn’t rushed.
This was a guide who really knew his stuff.

The tour was really good, me and my 11year old son enjoyed ourselves. The guide (Gaius) made it interesting and fun. Really recommend it! Definitely worth it.

Our guide was engaging, knowledgeable, and entertaining, everything a good tour guide should be. He wore his Roman costume with great aplomb and had some intriguing props and artefacts with him that helped bring the history to life for us.

I booked this tour for me and grandson and it was such a good experience. Our Roman Soldier guide Rob (he did give us a Roman name, but I’ve completely forgotten it!) was excellent, full of historical facts during the whole tour. I found it as interesting and fun as 9 year old Isaac did. A definite must for people of all ages when visiting Chester.

My partner, grandson and I took this excellent walking tour with Sextus, who was very informative and engaging. He included the children on the tour at every opportunity.Very good value for money!

It’s mainly an outdoor tour but at one point you go into the basement of Prêt à Manger to look at the original columns of the Roman city. If you don’t mind not going into Prêt then I suppose you could take you dogs. Probably best to contact the tour company, they may have a policy in place.

Is it ok for under 6s there doesn't seem to be a price for under 6
We have 5 children 3 5 yr olds and 2 6+

Hi, probably not, quite a bit of walking, and lots of talking, our children at that age would’ve got bored I imagine.
We did see another one, where it seemed child oriented, may have been a school party though. Suggest you do a search say under children activity in Chester maybe.

hi I just got back to the States. We were there for a tour a few days ago and it was pouring rain. We waited in the tourist office for an hour before the tour and then left when the guide never showed up at the allotted time. How do I get a refund?
