The tour lasted 2 hours and we were given a very informative trip around Newcastle. Very good and descriptive and would thoroughly recommend it for families.

The Gory tour with Alex was entertaining, informative and a great introduction to Newcastle. Alex clearly does his homework and his enthusiasm shines through in his tales of the fascinating and sometimes macabre history of this grand old city. Waterfront explosions, Victorian body snatchers, and Egyptian mummies...who knew? Alex also has helpful hints about other sites to see and the best places to eat and drink. We finished off our day in Newcastle with a pint or two in the Crown Posada, a classic 19th century establishment - Cheers Alex!

Took our first Iles Tour with Alex this week on a cold and damp afternoon in the city centre.
The tour started at 14:00 and lasted just under two hours with a steady walk from site to site to hear 'gory' tales of local characters, local incidents and the various 'practices' popular in times gone by. Amongst other things we learned such lot about body snatching, gruesome medical procedures, capital punishment and the inhumane treatment of (usually innocent) prisoners and their horrendous prison conditions. The Quayside in particular offers lots of stories, with the Great Fire of Gateshead being particularly notable and interesting.
As we walked between the different areas of the city Alex painted a picture in our minds of the city layout and the challenges faced by the local people in their struggle to survive and prosper.
Alex is a fantastic guide and his detailed knowledge of facts and figures is quite mind boggling. However he is able to create a narrative that places the listener in the scene he describes so well, and rather than simply listing facts and figures he left us with the impression we had actually witnessed some of the sights and smells (!!) he described so vividly. The cold, damp weather and the fading light just added to this atmospheric tour of our city.
We would highly recommend Iles Tours if you have an interest in not only the social and political history but also the real human side of life in Newcastle in the past. We will be booking another tour in the next few months and currently thinking of the Hadrians Wall options.

If you love tales of blood, gore and explosions then this tour is for you! Alex was so knowledgeable and interesting to listen to, and showed a different side to Newcastle city centre.

What a great tour !
Many exciting, and often even even funny :) , stories about the seedy side of Newcastle.
Alex is a great host and Tour-guide with a genuine interest and passion for the area and people of the North East.

Excellent tour. Alex is a mine of information and entertained us with fascinating historical facts and descriptions of some of the colourful characters who lived around the Quayside. Highly recommend this tour!

Alex, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable, interesting and very considerate throughout the tour. He brought the city to life for us and would 100% recommend for anyone who has an interest in the history of the city and the characters that lived there!

Great information and a really fun walking tour!! Lots of cool gory stories and we got to see the pub Jonny Depp was at when he got the verdict from the Amber Heard trial. Alex was a wonderful tour guide. Thanks Alex

Very informative and a wealth of knowledge. We had a great time. The walk while focusing on crime and gory stories also allows you to take in quite a few of the sites in Newcastle. Well worth taking this up if you’re visiting the city.

I believe most of it could be. There are stairs that we took,but I think he is flexible to suit your needs, if you make him aware of prior.
