I signed up my son to membership as part of this you can be invited to days where you can roadtest the motorcycles. That was the Saturday just gone by which we drove up on motorcycles, the parking at the site was easy, there is a large car park.
After signing all the forms there was about 15 of us that wanted to ride the bikes, they had put out around 10 bikes from 2009 to 1921. After a briefing we were led to the motorcycles which were started for us. We all seemed to have enough time to share and try each bike. It was a horse shoe designed course in the large car park. It was enough to get a feel for the bikes, as i went first on one of the old ones, i could see it would be hard to go out on the road. The front brake was very week only the engine breaking and the back brake seemed to work. It was a lovely experience thinking that these bikes had been made many years ago and were coming to life.
If you also visit the museum you can so many bikes in the halls from manufacturers that i have never heard off. If you like old english motorcycles or are interested in them, take a trip. Food on site, shop and plenty of parking.

Just had another amazing day at the national motorcycle museum in Birmingham. Great breakfast in the cafe, then 2 hours riding assorted classic & vintage bikes from the museum displays. Machines from 1919 to 1964. Join as a Friend of the Museum and get to ride your fantasy bikes!

Musée à ne pas louper, toute l'industrie moto de l'Angleterre y est représentée, très propre et très bien entretenu, nous les français avons une leçon à recevoir de nos voisins, de comment mettre en valeur le patrimoine national de la moto

I booked this trip for my husband, but I think I enjoyed it just as much as he did!!! An AMAZING Museum-and if we could, we would rate this trip a 10+! Then adding the Indy cars we were able to watch on the race track-“Wow”!!!

This museum is a gem. If you are remotely interested in British automotive history, you need to visit.

The museum is a bit far from Birmingham city centre but it worth to visit. The museum has good caffe inside

I visited the NMM for the first time yesterday 3rd March 2023 and had a really enjoyable time. Very friendly and helpful staff with an interesting and informative free tour given by volunteer Andrew. Bought some great books and a bundle of old motorcycle magazines and had a tasty lunch too... thank you all very much.

A thoroughly excellent experience, it's so good, I've been a few times. A must for anyone remotely interested in the history of motor cycles, there are some surprising exhibits waiting to be spotted. Apparently, there are all taken out for a spin along the lanes every now and again too, so not just a static display. Excellent cafe and restaurant facilities and exceptionally helpful staff make this an experience you will definitely return to again and again.
There is plenty of parking space and it is very close to the NEC so if you are going there, why not drop in to the NMM too.
I really can't rate this highly enough.

A HUGE range of amazing motorcycles. Covering everything from the original "bicycles with engines", through to record breaking land speed record holders.
Make sure you read the display board at the start of each hall. As that explains the layout. Otherwise, it's a lot to take in. If I remember rightly, the first hall is a timeline of all manufacturers. And each hall after that is in alphabetical order. And the final hall is for race machines.
I would say you have to be a motorcycle enthusiast to enjoy the museum, I'm glad I didn't bring my partner as I think she may have had enough after about the first hour. Each motorcycle has an A4 sized board of information about it, so there's a lot of info to take in.
I think they do sometimes run guided tours, I think something like that would help to identify the most significant bikes.
If I were to suggest improvements to the museum, there would be perhaps some sort of larger displays or screens above certain bikes, highlighting historically important bikes, such as "first motorcycle to adopt standardised controls" "first motorway to reach 100mph" etc.
There is a cafe, which smelt lovely. Unfortunately no vegan options. But I have found that's the norm in the biking community 😄
Overall though, an amazing place that I'm glad exists. I'm sure nowhere else will you find such a comprehensive collection of British Motorcycles.
