A little slice of heaven

The morning was pouring rain so we were a bit nervous about the 1.5 hour boat ride but by the time the tour started, the rain had stopped and there were rainbows everywhere. The water level was high from all of the recent rain so we only traversed 2 of the 3 lakes. Arrived at the landing for a cup of tea before climbing into the jaunting car. The horse's name was Bob. The scenery was spectacular. A warm fire and good food at Kate Kearney's cottage was a lovely end of the tour before the bus driver drove me back to the B&B where I was staying. A lovely day all around.

Memorable day!

Had a great time with this tour. The mountain views were surreal. The atmosphere at Lord Brandon's Cottage was incredible. And the boat ride through the lakes was enjoyable with very beautiful sights of the mountains.

It Just Doesn't Get Any Better Than This

Call it the luck of the Irish, but when Mike and Crazy Tom the Horse offered to take three of my girlfriends and me through the Gap of Dunloe in his jaunting cart, I knew we were in for a great experience. It was better than I could have imagined! Mike entertained us the entire way with stories, tales, insights and observations about the Gap and the area. Our conversation started when I asked how long he'd been doing this. "My first day...my first day on the job. 007 license to kill." I knew then we were in for a treat and I was right. Mike stopped at several prime spots along the way -- including one that offered a beautiful echo -- to allow us to take photos and took several for us, as well as getting in on a few himself. Mike's frequent "Come on, Toooom" and "Come up, come ouuuut" sprinkled throughout our conversation only added to the absolute "Irishness" of the journey. We learned a little about Tom (he likes Guinness, Mike says), who is 7 and will pull the cart until he is about 18, at which time he'll "retire" to giving children rides in a park in a nearby town. Mike also pointed out trail hikes accessible along the Gap path, including one leading to MacGillyCuddy's Reeks and Ireland's tallest mountain. Next time...next time! I'm not sure how the experience could have been any better. Thank you, Mike, for a memorable, entertaining journey through the Gap.

Best scenery in Ireland! Don't miss this tour!

We toured the Gap of Dunloe 20+ years ago and took this tour again in August 2024. It's one of the best things to do in Ireland. We recommended to our neighbors, and they did it as well while visiting Ireland (around the same time) & were so happy they did. The scenery is stunning. The jaunting cart was fabulous, and I would recommend you pay the extra to have a private ride (2 people).

Beautiful landscape. Ask about a weigh limit!

The scenery was the very best. We totally fell in love with the area.
My travel buddy and I approached the haunting carts with the rest of the group but we were ignored for 20 mins +. I asked about renting a cart and were told in a little bit. I told them that we had the boat to catch and the jaunting driver told me not to worry they won’t leave us.
Then a driver told us that we weee “big people” to be riding the carts and we could ride if we paid the price of 4 people instead of 2 people. Two driver got into a screaming match.
Finally the ride started with 4 people???
Near the end it began to rain(not unexpected)the driver pulled a tarp over our laps covered in horse manure. Guess what ended up on our clothing.

Must-Do tour in Gap of Dunloe

Beautiful and amazing tour on the lakes and in the gap of Dunloe.
Stunning views during the boat trip and jaunting horse trip, nice guides and overall a fun and great experience!

Great way to explore Killarney Lakes and Gap of Dunloe!

This was a great way to see the Lakes of Killarney, the Ross Castle and the Gap of Dunloe. Although it was a “tour” and a little more touristy than what we normally like to do, it was a small group and more authentic of a trip. There were only 8 people on the bus and boat with us and we were by ourselves (3) on the jaunting cart.

Unique and Breath-Taking!

This was a truly unique and breath-taking tour! We felt like we were in good hands, and the guides were very familiar with the area and explained things well. The scenery and experience is just amazing. We took the bus with boat tour, and then took a jaunting cart. We'll always remember this!

Amazing scenery

Almost 5 stars, but like reviews in the past, directions for the day were unclear. That being said, it was well worth the trip. The jaunting car ride through the gap of Dunlow was amazing! The scenery was spectacular! Sean, our cart driver was young and somewhat inexperienced, but we had a fabulous time anyway.
The boat ride was beautiful and our captain was full of information. The only downside to the boat ride was the lake was too low for us to be on the boat for the entire trip and we had to walk through the forest for some distance. If you are not in good physical shape, this could be a problem. I think they should have forewarned us Before we got there
Taking all of this into consideration, I would do it again .
