Dear James, Thank you for reviewing our Queer Berlin Tour, however we are sadden to hear that you felt the tour only merited such a negative review. Walid is one of our most experiencd guides with, until now, only 5 star reviews on Tripadvisor. He is, in fact, so well loved by our customers he is often requested by private and repeat clients. History and cultural content on the tour is fundamental, however we do also allow guides to give personal anecdotes on tour to enhance the tour narrative and add thier own charachter. Expecially as on a 3 - 4 hour tour, pure facts can be pretty overwhelming. Of course, it is the role of our guides to find this balance between entertainment and solid historical content and thus create a narrative to meet everyone's tastes in the group. Our guides undergo a stringent training and testing process to start working with us and undergo continuous quality control. The Queer Berlin Tour guides are also a very passionate and engaged group. Walid confirmed that he covered all the deep historical content as advertised and expected on this tour, such as e.g. Frederick the Great, the Eulenberg Affair, and the evolution of Article 175. In addition, as a licensed guide of Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial and Museum, he also focuses on difficult periods of German history during the tour such as the persecution of homosexuals under Nazi Germany. As I understand, the day of the tour was also the hottest day for the month of June this year in Germany with a temperature of 38°C or 100 °F. Therefore for all tour guests' comfort and safety, the locations where Walid stopped to talk on this occasion, may have seemed unusual, but there was a strong argument for his choices. Walid informed us that he chose to utilize the shade and cool temperatures for example at Wittenbergplatz Station for this very reason and that the location as well as Walid's thoughtful and creative approach to ensure the comfort of his guests, was in fact well received by the majority of those in the group. The focus of our tour is LGBTQ+ historical content with reference to the present day, rather than recommendations. So understandably, this tour does not visit gay bars (Gosh, if we visited all these in Berlin, it would be a long tour😊). Apologies, if this was not so clear. It was nevertheless nice for Walid to give such information and recommendations for your free time. Our guides are so passionate about their home city that they do like to add in recommendations where appropriate, to enhance the rest of your stay and I know that Walid is always taking extra time after the tour to offer such recommendations or answer any further questions. Thank you very much for your review. Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the Tour. You are right, being outside in the cold can be really bad. December is sometimes really cold in Berlin. Of course we do have to stop on ours tours at several stops to tell you the History/Story there and can´t walk around the whole time. Personal Stories of the guide add a lot of depth to the tour rather than only giving facts ( in our opinion). Really sad you gave up after half of the Tour and only gave us 2 stars.
