We managed to plan a personalized tour of the sites we wanted to visit and Maria was most accommodating as well as making some very relevant suggestions. She was punctual, very knowledgeable and professional. She was flexible with our needs and also our budget. We toured Park Güel and then had the most incredible experience at La Sagrada Familia thanks to her knowledge and passion . We will be booking her again the next time we visit Barcelona!

While writing daily blogs and newspaper columns for cruise passengers about the destinations they visit and the ships that take them there, we were fortunate to go on a Barcelona tour with Maria Nadina as our guide. What follows is our report of that experience -- Bob and Nancy Dunn, cruisingdoneright.
Of all the tour guides we have encountered, and all have been varying degrees of good at their craft, no one was better than Maria Nadina.
To us, she is the First Lady of Barcelona.
It's not just because she speaks six languages, all of them with clarity and eloquence, nor just because she has time to answer every question about every part of her adopted home, nor just because her smile and personality put a good face on Barcelona.
It's for all those reasons.
Of course Maria is delighted at the growth of cruising her city has experienced (at the time, Norwegian's 4,100-passenger Epic was the latest to make Barcelona home). It's good for her business.
She lives in one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, and anybody who has been there knows why. We were smitten on our first visit, before we ever met Maria.
Yet she knows better than anyone that a city needs balance, and sometimes Barcelona can seem too touristy.
"Sometimes," she worries, "it's not so good for the locals, as all the industry seems to be oriented to tourism. And local services are somehow abandoned."
Abandoned never applies to her clients. She will show them La Sagrada Familia, the church that may never be completed. She'll enlighten you with the changes to Barcelona, starting with the modern-era ones that came with the 1992 Olympic Games. She'll tell you about where to go in Las Ramblas, the city’s legendary shopping and eating core. She'll detail the legacies of Picasso, and Antonio Gaudi, who designed the church nobody can finish and who lies under it. She'll tell you the good and the bad, just like she does about the impact of tourism.
The Olympics that brought Maria to Barcelona from Belgrade, and she enhanced her credentials by conducting cruise tours in Brazil, Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico and Argentina. When she settled in Barcelona, Maria built her business (Barcelona Code) offering half a dozen tours, inside and outside the city.
She still finds that in her beautiful city "every daily walk is enough dose of inspiration for the next work of art in my glass and mosaics workshop."
As you see, there's nothing shallow about this First Lady of Barcelona.

Dear Bob and Nancy, your comments are beyond words! Guests like you make me love guiding and keep being passionate about my work, (even when it sometimes turns into "cruising around cathedral" :))) It is always the greatest reward to hear back from my clients, especially after such a long time. Barcelona changed a lot in the meantime, and Epic became just "epic", after all The largest cruise ships we received in the meanwhile), but the city never loses its original taste. So hope we can share again some walks and talks, and you will include Barcelona again among your destinations, even as a short port of call. Have a lovely Christmas and Happy & prosperous New 2020! Maria

We took a trip to Barcelona in Sept 2016. We follow Maria as she has become part of our #1 recommendation for a private tour guide for her knowledge of history, her passion to educate and her flare to entertain. Honestly, she made our private tour of the city so much more than just a trip. She made us feel like we were home!! Bravo Maria
