I booked this trip because it included Anacapri, and I had a particular wish to see the Villa San Michele.
A few days before we went a Sorrento local told us that the Blue Grotto is closed on about half the days of the year. The problem is that, although the grotto itself is huge, the entrance is very small, and any sort of sea swell makes it too dangerous. As it happens it was closed the day we went, so be prepared for that. We were given a boat tour around the island instead, at the end of the day
It's an early start for the tour as we were asked to be at the Marina Piccola in Sorrento for 8.00am. The nature of this tour is that the guide arranges all the transport and makes suggestions for things to do, but leaves you a fair amount of free time. Our Guide was called Marcella and I thought she was excellent.
We caught the 0830 jetfoil from Sorrento which takes about 20 minutes to get to Capri. I understand the Blue Grotto is normally the first activity but as that wasn't available we started with Capri town, and our guide got us entry (at no extra cost) to the Gardens of Augustus, from which there are spectacular views. The early start was worth it as there were only a few people around. I am told that it becomes very crowded later in the day, and the same is true of Capri town.
For me the highlight of the day was the trip to the island's other community of Anacapri. We had 2 hours to spend there. You'll probably want to get lunch during that time, and there are two other main activities - the chairlift to Mt. Solare or the visit to the Villa. Most people went for the chairlift although my priority was the Villa, which I thought was a magical place. The Guide will give you directions to each. You probably won't have time to do both activities and have lunch, though if you choose one activity plus lunch you'll probably have a little time left to look around the local shops.
Booking the tour took all the hassle out of trying to organise transport around the island, and you had the advantage of advice from someone who knew what they were talking about.
Capri is a stunningly beautiful island, really well worth a visit, and personally I think it would be a shame to miss Anacapri.

So long as the Blue Grotto is open, this tour is impossible to be "bad". Our guide Michele made a great decision in getting us over to the grotto via bus instead of around the island via boat given the somewhat rough waters that day. Anacapri is perfect for shopping and Le Arcate and their Ravioli Caprese was spectacular.

My wife and I learned a lot and enjoyed the experience. Alberta was a pleasure to have as tour a guide. I would recommend this option to friends and family.

Great day trip with Marcella! She was so warm and personable and really knew the area. We were lucky enough to be able to get in to see the Blue Grotto early by 9:30. She arranged all the logistics so efficiently that we had time not only to spend time in Anacapri and Capri but she was able to arrange an additional boat trip along the coast to see the Faraglioni rocks. I couldn’t imagine having a better experience.

This tour only covers Blue Grotto though the tour title says Capri and Blue Grotto and in the detail description it does mention other spots on the island. Everything else you are expected to explore on your own.
Other than that it was a pleasant experience. The guide was knowledgeable and funny. They take care of round trip Ferry tickets so you don’t have to struggle to figure out right ferry etc.
So long as you go with the right expectation this is a good option.

We couldn’t have asked for better guide than Michele. He was organized from the very first moment, always kept the things in his hand and shared every information with us detailed and clear. He told all the important things and stories to know about the magnificient Capri island and a little more, not to mention his funny comments and humor. Even though we couldn’t make it to the Blue Grotto because of the tide and the wind, he took us to a 1 hour long trip as a plan B to see Green Grotto, White Grotto and the famous Faraglioni. Thank you for this amazing trip!

We went in early April, when the weather was not great. Due to unfavourable sea conditions our trip was cancelled. We rescheduled for the next day. That day the tour to Capri went ahead, but we couldn't go into the blue grotto as it is a very small entrance and because of the choppy water we couldn't enter. This was very disappointing. On the island, we trekked up to Cassa Lyssa. It took at least 45 to 50 min to get to it as signage was poor. This ate up a lot of the time on the island which meant we didn't get to spend time in the centre sipping a drink and chilling u fortunately. Food and drink on Capri is extremely expensive. I paid €7 for a can of coke!! It's a nice island, more so when the sun is shining though. The boat trip out took about 50 mins.

Our guide met us at dock and since everyone arrived early he switched us to an earlier ferry. Got a mini van right away- they are very limited on island. Perfect day for blue grotto. Didn’t have to wait in a rocking boat, we waited from land. Chairlift to top of island also excellent. Great day!

Merveilleuse journée avec une super guide [Sandra] qui, avec son style bien à elle, nous a permis d’apprendre plein d’informations historiques et modernes tout en légèreté et avec un décor à couper le souffle! Le tout en français et en anglais…tout le groupe a été bien servi! Prenez le temps de lire attentivement les inclusions et les options payantes à votre forfait. Personnellement, les options payantes valaient le coup sans hésitation. Nous avons eu un réel plaisir avec cette guide expérimentée et qui nous transmet sa passion. Bonne visite 😊

Absolutely amazing tour. We loved all of it, although we were unable to go to the blue grotto due to sea conditions the boat tour around the island was outstanding.

Hi, I am doing this on Saturday and want to know if people get to swim in the water during the boat tour. Pictures show people swimming in the Blue Grotto and want to come prepared. Please let me know!

Will we have a chance to do the chairlift and the blue grotto? Thinking of going Friday 4/24 or 4/25. The other day we would like to do private tour of Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. Is one day better than the other? Interested in Pompeii but thinking it is too much because our other days are travel from Florence on Thursday and leaving on Sunday. Thank you for your help!
