First, let me say that we did not know that a tour of the facility was even possible or without question we would have tried to fit it in during my daughter and my 3 night's stay in Sorrento. Nonetheless, we visited his showroom and gift shop in Sorrento on several different occasions and met one of his sons and Master Mastellone himself there. We had visited a number of shops in Sorrento looking for unique gifts and while there were several shops that were selling very nice inlaid wood art, they did not measure up to the wonderfully vibrant colors, variety and designs created by Giuseppe and his two sons. Every item was absolutely amazing and so unique that nothing compared to anything we had seen at the other stores. We purchased a number of items including coasters, a jewelry box and a catchall. Several of the items will be given as gifts so I am quite certain we will be looking to order more now that we have returned back to the U.S. If you are in the Sorrento area you owe it to yourself to stop in the store or better yet tour his facility to experience firsthand a truly wonderful family of incredible craftsmen!

This tour/experience/tutorial provided an extraordinary insight into how three Old World craftsmen — Giuseppe Mastellone and his two sons — continue to keep a longstanding artistic tradition alive. We had previously seen and had been very impressed by their shop in Sorrento, featuring brightly colored boxes with geometric designs, classic intarsia tables, chessboards, and other objects. Next, we scheduled a visit to their workshop in the suburb of Sant’Agnello, just a 12-minute drive from Sorrento’s Piazza Tasso. It was amazing to witness how layers of almost wafer-thin exotic woods are cut and then fit into precisely shaped patterns. Master Giuseppe and his two sons were very warm and welcoming, and helped us make some small inlaid pieces ourselves! This was a memorable experience to have on our 30th wedding anniversary, and we have ordered some additional pieces for gifts from our new friends since returning to the United States.

This was the very best thing I did while visiting the region. The incredible skill, creativity, passion and sense of history this family business demonstrates is incredible. The tour was highly informative and worth every bit of the time and cost. Our host was gracious and very personable. I highly recommend this.

Visita in una fabbrica di artigianato di intarsio sorrentino, dove viene mostrata l'antica arte della tarsia tutta realizzata a mano. Esperienza unica essendo una delle poche aziende rimaste che praticano questa professione. Tour molto divertente e interessante grazie al maestro Giuseppe che con le sue spiegazioni dettagliate riesce a conivolgerti nella sua arte. Consigliatissimo per chi ama l'artigianato e fare un'esperienza diversa dalle solite.

My husband’s hobby is marquetry so we were very enthused to visit a master craftman’s workshop to see how it was done commercially. The visit exceeded all our expectations both in the craftsmanship and the welcome we were given. The tour showed us the types of veneers used and the skill in cutting the intricate designs both traditional patterns and more modern. We were shown the shading process and the ‘jigsaw’ puzzle of putting all the pieces together, then the highlighting details. There is also a small office displaying the finished products for sale. We indulged ourselves with a beautiful tray, an iPad stand and trinket box. Very very happy with the products and the prices we paid. The business is a family business with Mastelonne Giuseppe the father doing the intricate cuttings.
I would recommend a visit (phone first to book a time with them as this is a business and the work needs to be done!) you will not be disappointed especially if you love the craftsmanship
of wood. We walked up from Sant’Agnello using google maps then phoned when we were close and they opened the gate to meet us.
