Pompei was interesting to see, but we were disappointed in our guide. In spite of the 1-hour ride from Naples and the walk to the entrance, we were not given the promised bathroom break before starting the 2-hour walk through Pompei, Our guide, Francesca, was informative but seemed bored with the whole thing and her accent was so heavy, we had a hard time understanding her.

Un poco decepcionados.La excursión a Pompeya contó con una guía amable y que amaba su trabajo;sin embargo,la otra mitad de la excursión,en Sorrento ,destacaba por la apatía y desinterés de la guía. Daba la impresión que estaba contando los minutos para irse. Para redondear,en vez de llevarnos por la carretera de la costa,el viaje te lleva por un largo túnel donde no ves nada.

Booked this tour in advance of our trip. Pickup was from just across the street from the Naples main train station. Was a smaller bus (about 16 people), very comfortable with a main aisle and seating for two on one side, one on the other. Once arriving in Pompeii, we walked to near the entrance and waited for our tour guide. Was a gentleman with great knowledge of Pompeii, who then took us to the main sights to see, taking about two hours there. The ruins are massive and you could spend a whole day easy going around on your own. At various stops you were allotted some time to explore the area more on your own and take your photos, which was nice. Really amazing the work they have done uncovering ruins there and how intact some areas actually are given what happened.
We then had lunch at a restaurant near the opening (for those of us continuing on the Sorrento tour), of which there were only eight of us. Lunch was no choice, pizza, which was just fine. We then boarded another smaller van with a different tour guide, for the ride to Sorrento.
Beautiful scenery as we got to the coast and the driver stopped at a prime viewing area so we could take pictures. Continued on to central Sorrento where we were given a brief walking tour, including a stop overlooking the beach and coastline (very pretty), and a stop at a Limoncello shop, where we were given about eight shots each of different Limoncello varieties. That was quite nice! We ended up buying a bottle of the one we liked. After this, we were given about a half hour to shop around and then had to meet up at a certain spot near the main square. Could have used more time to look around here for sure.
Given how long it takes to get to Sorrento from Pompeii and the little time actually there, I probably would have opted to do a full day in Pompeii and skip the Sorrento part. Sorrento could have used a full day to really look around the town more.
Long drive back to Naples and dropped off near the main train station for our train back to Rome.
Overall very good tour, though, and the guides were professional and very knowledgeable for sure.

While planning travel from Milan to Sorrento, we compared various means and finally settled on using Ryan Air instead of Fast train from Milan. It costs less and allows us instead of using almost a whole day to less than half day for the travel. We then followed the usual advice from Naples airport to Sorrento using private DayTrip driver and with two excursions at Mt Vesuvius and Pompei, two hr each place, and finally 1 hr + drive o Sorrento. The plan allows us visiting not just one, but two places on the travel day. Since we came to Pompei late around 3:40pm, there is no line at all, and went thru the historical sites without a large crowd. Our driver GiuseppeT. (Jospeh) is a Naples native speaking fluent English. Our family learned a lot about the city, history, the volcano, and Pompeii while in his car. Highly recommend if ever you happen to use his service.

Wanted to do the tour that included Amalfi coast but was rejected for some reason so this looked like a good option. It was an ok tour. The walk through the Ancient Ruins of Pompeii was brilliant and our tour guide Francesca really knew her stuff. After Pompeii we met our next tour guide who took us to the nearby restaurant for a pre-ordered pizza (which was ok) and then we were whisked off to the next bus to head down to Sorrento. The driver was terrible (fast slow fast slow fast slow, etc) but eventually we pulled up to the absolutely spectacular Sorrento. Went for a wander through the main streets of Sorrento and into a crazy little tasting session at a Lemocello store. Some beautiful flavours in there!! We had a little free time to wander around before making the journey back to Naples. Overall a good tour but some negatives as well.

My guide brought Pompeii to life! She was so passionate and knowledgeable. I was going to try and navigate transportation to Pompeii independently, but booked this tour at the last minute. I’m glad I did! The Sorrento excursion afterwards was fine if you only have one day in this area, but it felt more like a tourist trap than a peaceful sea village. Grazie mille!
