- Start your tour by meeting your guide near the Vatican Museum’s entrance. Your ticket allows early access to the complex, which means you can enjoy it without the daytime crowds. Start out with a tour of the Vatican Museum highlights, including the Gallery of Tapestries and the Raphael Rooms. You’ll then head into the Sistine Chapel. Talking is not allowed in the chapel, so your guide will provide an introduction to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes before you enter. After taking your time to admire Michelangelo’s ceiling fresco, head to St. Peter’s Basilica to see Michelangelo's Pietà, Bernini's baldachin, and the Tomb of Pope Alexander IV. After your tour ends, you’re free to explore more of the Vatican on your own.

- Occasionally the Basilica may be closed due to last minute private events outside of the tour operators control and often without notice. In these uncommon circumstances the tour will operate as usual and the time spent inside the basilica will be made up elsewhere on the tour. No refunds will be granted in the event the Basilica is closed
- Starting in 2024, the Vatican Museums will discontinue early access for ALL tour providers, instead opening to the public at 8AM. This tour will then be offered as a first entrance experience, which we recommend for a less crowded, more personalized, and fully guided experience.
- Vatican management maintains the right to delay the opening of the Sistine Chapel for religious reasons, in this case the guide will modify the itinerary and extend your visit of the museums to ensure you make the most of your time before access to the Sistine Chapel is permitted.
- Please note St Peter's Basilica is closed on most Wednesday's. If you book during a day in which the Basilica is closed, your tour of the Vatican Museums will be extended to compensate the closure

Our tour of the Vatican Museum, Sistine chapel & St Peter’s Basilica with Massimo was a great event. You don’t realise how much incredible art there is at the Vatican Museum before you arrive at the Sistine Chapel. Whilst in the queue to get in, Massimo briefed us on a lot of what we were about to see with illustrations displayed on a tablet as guides aren't allowed to talk in the Chapel itself. Massimo spent a lot of effort in ensuring that by the time we arrived at the Chapel, we really understood Michelangelo’s motivations, where he drew his inspiration from (you get to see sculptures and art along the way that shows this), and the theological and political environments that shaped the art. We also got to learn an insight to Raphael and witness his works in the Vatican rooms. Along the way Massimo also showed us and explained many other artworks and got us to look at tapestries etc. from perspectives that provided optical illusions whereas we would have just walked on by not realising what was there. The Sistine Chapel itself is breathtaking and you spend time in there identifying all of the things that Massimo had pointed out at the beginning and have a good understanding of the Renaissance influence. Massimo also showed us other art on the tablet that had been inspired in turn by the Renaissance and where else we could get to see it (such as the Villa Borghese and Capuchin Crypt). Once we got to St. Peters Square and into the Basilica, Massimo took great pains to demonstrate the scale of the place itself and how the art within it also had to be of a huge scale, or risk being lost within the space. All in all a great tour. An extra that you can do after is to go halfway up the Basilica in an elevator and then clamp the stairs up to the top of the Dome itself (10 Euros each). The stairs up (and different route down) can be a little weird and tight, but the view is incredible. On the way up, you also get to circumvent part of the interior of the dome and look down to see how tiny the people are which truly shows you the size and scale of the Basilica. Also, another quirky thing you can do is to go into the post office counter where you can buy postcards (don't bother with the gift shop as the best postcards are at the counter itself) and stamps and then put them in the yellow post boxes outside where you will have sent postcards back from the smallest country in the world.

We had Elisabetta as our guide on this tour. OMG she was absolutely amazing, she feed us so much information throughout the tour - she was incredible. It was so interesting and really made this experience more enjoyable. There was so much detail given to us about various aspects, it really helped us to understand and appreciate what we were seeing. We felt so lucky to have such an amazing guide. This tour was so incredible, the rooms we saw and access we had were amazing. I would highly recommend this tour and this company to anyone. Not one disappointing thing about the tour or company were experienced. Thank you for making our visit so memorable.

Lucy was absolutely amazing! The tour was easy, included headsets and Lucy was extremely knowledgeable. The information provided was fun and detailed. Lucy did a great job of making the walking manageable and providing incredible insight along the way. Highly recommend asking for Lucy if visiting the Vatican museums via a tour.

Can we add on a Dome tour as well or do that separately after this tour completes?

Hmmm.. good question. I’ve bern to Florence many times on different trips with different family members & to stay for long visits my daughter who lived there for 3 years. So I’m pretty familiar with booking tours & going on tours. I don’t recall that combining the Vatican Tour & the Duomo ever being ever an option that I ran across. I think there might be completely private your companies that could combine that. I did use a private company once to take my daughter who was visiting her sister & the time in Florence & Italy was tight, so I built a very specific tour itinerary for the 2 of them with that company. I’ve forgotten the name of the company, but will look for it & post if I find it. The Vatican Museum & Sistine Chapel & St. Peter’s Basilica is a long tour & your brain is bursting with info & the hundreds of beautiful things you’ve seen. You do really need a bit of a breath 😝 & sone food at the end of that.
As far as the Dumo tour options. The best is to try & find a tour that takes you up to the balcony so uk J get a close up look at the ceiling painted by Vasari. Then up there rest of the way, up the narrow passage & many many stone streps up your the look out balcony around the outside of the Duomo. It’s takes some stamina & energy, but the views from up there are STUNNING!
Sometimes I’ve had to do the access to the balcony to view the Vasari ceiling & the top of the Duomo on its own & then done a tour of the Baptistry combined with the Musea de Opera as another tour. Which is a GREAT tour also!!
Hope this wasn’t just completely confusing. Have fun!! See what you can fit in! Money wise & time wise. EVERYTHING in FLORENCE is BEAUTIFUL

I also am not sure the answer. Viator usually has book now pay later tours. But we took LivTours so not sure.

Site states not wheelchair accessible, but can elderly with rolling walkers take this tour?

There is a long set of steps just to get into the Vatican and some stairs inside. I don't recall seeing an elevator either. And there was a lot of walking in that tour. I would suggest you ask this question of your tour guide. Sorry I can't be of more help. I just didn't pay attention to that part of it.

Hello - Since covid restrictions are due to lessen over the next couple of months, would a Green Pass (neg covid test) be accepted for entry...instead of the Super Green Pass...? We are booked for April 19th

One of my friends will be using a light weight scooter. She was hit by a drunk driver and she can walk but is limited in distance. Would this tour be okay for her? Thank you. Michelle
