Sightseeing in busy cities like Rome, include queueing, especially larger highlights. So also the Vatican. Visiting the impressive St Peter Basilica is for free but …the queue takes long (hours) and in summertime, it is very warm. Do yourself a favor and combine a shortcut to the end of the queue with a visit to the Vatican Museum and Sistine chapel under authorized guidance. You get to see and here a lot of interesting stories, facts about the history and current life in the Vatican and the large collection of art. Sure, it cost money but you spend 3-3.5 hours seeing things and we (family of 4) felt it was worth it. With 30.000 daily visitors and about 1000 tourguides, there is a lot to choose from. Inside Out was friendly, sent us in a group of 11 (that gives you more info time per person). Our guide Chad had humor, was patient but also smart and efficient to find good routes and tips for photos. Money well spent.

The meeting point was easy to find and the company are well organised around check-ins and getting into the Vatican. I lucky enough to have Susana as my tour guide, her knowledge and demeanour throughout the tour made it thoroughly enjoyable and super educational. The hours flew by and i can’t recommend Susana and this tour highly enough!!

DO NOT BOOK. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had. We got an email confirming that we had a tour scheduled. It was around €250 for the tickets and the guided tour. It was listed under the name “Eternal Rome.” We went to the meeting place on time and could not find them. We contacted them multiple times and no reply. Eventually a kind stranger informed us that there is no eternal rome, it’s Inside Out Italy. We were floored. Nothing on our tickets had that name. We finally got to the Inside Out building at 9:44, about 14 minutes after our scheduled tour. We spent about thirty minutes trying to find them. When we got in the building, they gave us the tickets but said we missed the tour. We explained what happened and no one offered a refund or even offer we go on the 10am tour instead. We contacted customer service and NO RESPONSE. We were literally begging for someone to speak to us. Horrendous experience. It was so awful that my partner was reduced to tears in the middle of the street. This was what we were most excited for on our trip and it was completely ruined for us. I will never use this service again and I recommend the same for everyone else!!!
Update: they FINALLY contacted us today. Said we never texted or called them when we did. Didn’t offer a refund. Asked for us to take down this post!

Family trip to Vatican with grown up children and one grandchild (baby). Well organised at the start with clear instructions where to go. Our guide Federico was very friendly and knowledgeable (running commentary through ear piece) and helped us plan for tricky bits with pram.
