Chaotic, rushed and too pricey
At the start , too chaotic . Our guide took off through the crowd and left us behind . We did eventually find her but she seemed very rushed . I am guessing that this is the tour company itself hurrying her to be done in a certain amount of time so she can move on to the next group . Quality versus quantity is always preferred. My sister has limited mobility so the speed of this tour took all of the enjoyment away .

Pleasant informative guide made the experience very nice. As a plus you get tickets to a nearby museum located on the square.

Purtroppo una delusione
Non abbiamo ricevuto i biglietti e quindi abbiamo dovuto fare nuovi biglietti. Nessun mail di conferma ma il pagamento era stato effettuato.

Wonderful tour

I booked the St. Mark's Basillica, Doge's Palace and the dungeons tour. It was excellent. Our tour guide was very enthusiastic, clearly enjoyed what she was doing and was so interesting. The tour lasted 2 1/2 hours and there was plenty of time for questions. What a great tour - the absolute best of my trip to Venice!!!

Rushed and poor sound

The not queuing part was good but there were too many people on the tour and the microphone was very muffled and we struggled to understand the guide. She didn’t really have many informative things to say. When we crossed the bridge of sigh’s she didn’t really say anything, not why it was called that etc. I have been on a previous tour that was so much better. She also rushed through the whole thing and lead us straight outside without even asking if anyone wanted to stay and look around even though we were entitled to do so with our ticket.

My children (8, 11 & 14) were extremely bored.

Very informative and entertaining!

The tour was awesome, and Marco Busetto was very knowledgeable and entertaining. It lasted more than one two hours, and we were able to ask all the questions we could think of. The group was small (we were 7 overall), so it was very easy to follow and participate. I definitely recommend it!! Without a guide, we would have not got much out of the palace, for it's very big and full of details. You definitely need someone to lead your attention to the right spots and tell you their stories!

Doge's Palace and St Mark's Basillica - all in one!

We booked to see the Doge's Palace on a guided tour (skip the queue). The tour guide was very knowledgeable about all the incredible paintings and artists. A lot of information to take in, couldn't absorb all of it. (Might be a bit much for younger vistors). The tour included a visit to the prison across the Bridge of Sighs. Interesting to see the grandeur of the palace and then the very basic prison.

When we left the palace, the guide then took us into St Mark's Basillica which we hadn't realised was included in the tour. This was a bonus as you were guided through the crowds - tour groups take priorty - into the church which used to belong to the palace The guide was again very informative of the areas and the artwork throughout the building on the ceiling and pillars.

It was a couple of hours in total but pleased we booked. You aren't able to take back packs into either building, but there's storage area in the palace that you can put your bag in for that tour. You can collect your bag after but will need to check it in before going into the church - the guide showed us another facility within St Marks Square, just opposite (free for an hour) and stayed with us until we had all reassembled, then took us as a group into the church.

Make sure you arrive in plenty of time to be given your audio guide and earphone. Our tour was at 10.45 am so quite a busy time of day, but wasn't an issue as we were booked in.

A bit underwhelmed

The reason for my classification is that when I look back I can only remember how awkward and rude our guide was.

Personally, I was very excited for this visit. I'm a Fine Arts graduate so I'm naturally interested in all you can give me in a guided tour to a Palace!
I went to visit a close friend who was studying arts, in Florence and we decided to go into some guided tours to better learn from the experts!

The information given on itself was good. The guide seemed nice and front forward. She wanted to show us all and be done with it in time and would warn other groups delaying the visits. This seemed to our best interest so I was very glad we had such a guide. She was very informative and explained well all the places.

Now the Red Flags_________

-> the first one was when an american couple asked if they had to leave everything in the lockers, looking for reassurance. This was no personal question, not directed at anyone but her instant reaction was defensive and how he was assuming she was putting us in danger.
-> then she was rude to more than one group and people also visiting the palace because they were stopping us from moving on - which I understand and was actually thankful she was looking out for our visit - except in the way she spoke, which she could have managed another way of saying the same things.
-> the last drop was when I asked her to repeat an information about the Bridge of Sighs because I didn't understand what she said and she plainly talks to me - in Italian - saying "that I would have understood if I wasn't talking to my friend"!!!...... I obviously smiled confused and repeated the question but my friend was shocked and later told me. I was so embarrassed although she was the one with an attitude!

We are both graduated in Fine Arts, me and my friend barely spoke the entire visit and when we did it was usually to notice some detail or discuss something we were told about. So this was straight forward the guide lashing anger at tourists for no reason.

I actually had a 3 week formation on Art Mediation in Lisbon and the first thing they tell us is to be empathetic and welcoming to WHOEVER comes to the museum - regardless of appearances, motivations, age, etc. These attitudes, despite possibly having a bad day, was just RUDE.

I wouldn't say this ruined the whole visit but basically when I remember my visit to The Doge's Palace, I keep on remembering how I was treated and dismissed instead of recalling how pleasant it was.

Bare in mind this is obviously a matter of luck - which guide it's attributed to your visit. But I didn't want to stop myself from leaving some feedback for people to be wary that it can not go so well and MAINLY for the Doge's Palace Guided visits better prepare their guides for a pleasant visit.

Good tour

Some tours to museums and churches won’t permit photos but this tour does. This tour also crosses the Bridge of Sighs. Staff are friendly and spoke English.

Building more impressive than tour guide

To see the building was impressive but I’m afraid the guide was droning on in monotone with no humour that was frankly boring, that at least half the tour , like us, drifted off to view the place on our own. Probably luck of the draw as the guy from same company we had for st Mark’s Basilica was great. Also should have been warning about amount of stairs as one guy was really suffering.

In fact, all our licensed guides are carefully selected and communication skills are of course among the selecting criteria, so we were surprised to read you found her boring.
