My wife and I both enjoyed our row through some quiet canals. We both thought our guide to be attentive and excellent company. I would recommend this activity as a highlight of a trip to Venice.

Best family experience in Venezia!
Stefano was very friendly from the first contact.
He explained very well how to row (vogare) like locals used to do. Each member of our family had a go. Our children aged 10, 13 and 16 tried and truly enjoyed it and so did my wife and myself.
We all loved the experience of rowing in the quiet canals of Cannaregio. You get an amazing feeling and understand how the local families used to travel before the boat engines made such an advance.
Stefano and his club are truly passionate about trying to maintain this art, which is disappearing, except for the professional gongolieri.
We all felt it was a truly wonderful and worthy experience.
We highly recommend this to anyone visiting La Serenissima.

What a wonderful experience for us to be introduced to a wonderful rowing tradition away from the busy streets. We learned so much about the boats, the Forcola (what they are made of and the different types) and how this type of rowing came into existence. Stefano was a brilliant instructor and so patient. The best activity I’ve done in Venice.

This experience was a highlight of our trip to Venice and had been gifted to us. Not only did we get an intimate experience on the narrow canals, it is a way to learn how to row like the gondoliers. Emilio explained about their business of restoring boats and Stefano gave my husband the opportunity to row for the better part of our time on the water. This was a unique, interesting and enjoyable experience and highly recommend it.

Booked a couple of weeks in advance via email; we were greeted warmly by Emilio on arrival who not only taught us how to row the Venetian way and let us loose to row one of their boats, but also explained many things and answered our endless questions; beautiful tranquil surroundings, no pressure, just a lovely hour and a half - would definitely recommend - much better value than going on a regular gondola!

Venice on board is a therapeutic experience that puts you at peace with yourself. Rowing along the canals of Cannaregio with the suggestions of Nicola Emiliano and Stefano is simply fantastic.

Not many people can claim they have actually rowed a boat on Venice canals. What an incredible experience. Stefano was an awesome teacher!! He taught us so much more about the history & art of rowing in these canals. Instead of paying for the overpriced tourist trap ride with gondoliers, we would highly recommend this lifetime experience..

The introduction to Venetian rowing was a great experience all around. Nico is a great teacher and guide who teaches the art with a lot of knowledge and skill. The course lasted just over 2 hours and, in addition to the practical part, also taught the history of rowing in Venice.
The course is highly recommended.

Our guide Stefano and his association restore old Venetian rowing boats and teach the technique of rowing, with the aim of reviving this know-how but also promoting a more authentic and ecological way of getting around Venice. First, Stefano explained to us the goal of the association while conveying his passion for rowing. Then he took us on a typical Venetian boat with 2 oars where he taught us the basics of this technique each in turn. It's extraordinary to find yourself on the canals of Venice with an oar in your hand. This is where we really get the measure of what this city is, its history, its particularity. This experience, richer in education than a simple gondola ride, was the highlight of our week in Venice. In addition, Stefano speaks French better than I Italian and the conversation was all the better for it. Good luck to him and his association.

My wife and i may have an interest in doing this.... would we be in a boat together or in separate boats? I assume this is not a scenic venture... according to your write-up it is in a quite lonely canal... is that right?

You are learning a complicated skill, so it is done on more quiet canals for ease and safety. However, let's face it...everywhere in Venice is scenic!
I'm sure that you could organise multiple coaches and multiple boats, or you could both be in the one boat and take turns.
