We had a wonderful time with Giuseppe as our guide around Catania! He was very knowledgeable and took us to the best spots in town for classic Sicilian food. His knowledge of Catania’s history and his recommendations for food and wine were exceptional. Thank you Giuseppe for a wonderful introduction to Sicily through this food tour!

I travel alone. A street food tour is a way for me to meet people. Now I have been to Catania before and have also done a street food tour before. This earlier tour started around 10:00 in the morning. At that time, the fish market at Porta di Carlo V and the market at Piazza Carlo Alberto di Savoia are still open and can be eaten at stalls everywhere. That's my idea of street food.
The tour started around 12.00. The fish market was almost cleaned up. We started the tour in a restaurant where we got a whole arancini per person. An arancini is not a light snack and fell very heavily. The guide could have picked up two different ones and divided them into pieces to let us taste.
The second course at Scirocco was a bag of fried fish per person, very tasty, but way too much, especially after a whole arancini. The bags of fish are big enough to share.
After the arancini and the fish I was so full that I had to skip the next course.
With the tour we mainly walked the main street. We ended up at a bakery where again a large canolli was bought per person.
In total, the tour lasted 2 hours while advertising with 3 hours. I felt a little bought. The guide explained the length of the tour by pointing out the group size. Apparently, with a smaller group, you're done earlier. Curious.
What also struck me was that the guide could tell little about Catania. That may be because she herself had moved into the area quite recently and does not know the city and its stories as well as a real local guide (yet).
All in all one of my worse street food tours, shorter than promised, too big portions (it should, I think, be about tasting and not eating yourself full), not really street food and not enough background information about Catania.
My advice would be to start earlier, eat something at the fish market (oyster oid), have a fresh juice squeezed at the market, share a few arancini, share a few bags of fish fry, buy a few pieces of savoury pastry to share, buy some pieces of sweets with almonds (there are really stalls everywhere), try some local sausage and cheese somewhere, drink a seltz al limone and end up with a canolli with a local limoncello. 3 hours is easy to fill. But then the guide must want to

We had high hopes for this trip, but unfortunately the experience was not as hoped.
Start and group size
At the beginning we discovered that there were only five participants. We thought this would be ideal for discovering the best places in the city in three hours.
Stops and food
At the first stop we were given the choice of several options. What seemed better, however, was that a selection was simply put on the table to taste everything. Unfortunately, this soon proved too much and heavy.
During the walk, a man went along who had a lot of knowledge of the city himself. He supplemented or sometimes corrected the guide. This made the guide seem uncomfortable, as if she was caught. Because of this, she didn't seem sincere to us.
At the next stops, large amounts of food were ordered again. Again, this was way too much. The guide even asked to take pictures of us as an advertisement for her, but the way it felt strange.
The stops followed each other too quickly, sometimes only ten minutes apart. At one stop hot dishes were offered, but we were not allowed to exchange them for the sweets present. This was a shame, especially considering the price of 65 euros per person.
Later we got an ice cream and soon after sweet pastries. The guide suddenly announced that the tour was over. This happened after only two hours, while three hours were promised in advance. Her explanation that this was dependent on group size felt like a weak excuse.
Our conclusion
For a young couple who paid 130 euros together, this experience was disappointing. We lacked authenticity: street food is all about discovering unique places, not walking through the main streets. In addition, the food was far too much and poorly timed, and the guide did not come across as professional.
Although this concept may work better in other situations, we do not recommend this tour.

Giuseppe was wonderful! Very personable and passionate. The tour included brief historical facts about the city and conversations with a few local vendors. Would definitely recommend. Delicious food choices, great company, awesome guide!

Great tour and guide. Well chosen food locales, good variety of foods and great history of catania. Guisseppe was personal, answered all questions and was responsive to all needs. highly recommend this tour and guide.

We had a fantastic tour with Giuseppe! Each stop had delicious food and he gave us a great history of Catania and Sicilian food. Highly recommend the tour and Giuseppe! You will be full when you are finished but each bit is worth it!

Wonderful tour during our first visit to Sicily. Giuseppe was an excellent guide. We learned quite a bit about Sicilian culture and we tried many different foods that represent the local cuisine. Thank you for the hospitality.
