We hebben Marken bezocht met de Jan Smit - de boot vanuit Volendam. Uiteraard gewandeld naar ‘Het Paard’, het doel van deze trip. Bezoek gebracht aan de klompenmakerij en de demonstratie bijgewoond die door de enthousiaste Sebastiaan werd gegeven.

Nuestra visita a los pueblos fue genial, sin duda un broche para cerrar nuestra etapa por amsterdam, todo ello gracias a nuestra guia Sara, lo hizo muy ameno, explica genial y sobre todo sus toques de humor. Los pueblitos son muy bonitos y en ningún momento sentimos ir corriendo a todos lados, teníamos tiempo para verlos, tomar fotos y tomar algo. El sitio que nos recomendo para comer, sin duda ha sido la mejor comida que hemos hecho en este pais. 100% recomendable

Unfortunately the day I did this tour (today) it was a typical winter’s day with lots of fog! That didn’t hinder the experience just meant the view from the bus wasn’t as good! Xavier our guide and Pete our driver were super friendly! Xavier was very knowledgeable and made the tour both entertaining and informative! We got a taste of the ‘traditional’ Dutch way of life and history and interesting facts about the country. Highly recommend!!

Highly recommended excursion. We went with Chameleon Tours and it is the most complete and the cheapest. As a guide we played Ana Maria and driver Ron, both wonderful. Visits, with explanation time and free time without burdens or runs. All well organized. It's very worth it.

The tour was great! We arrived at the Windmill town before it got too crowded, moved through each stop at a good pace, and learned a lot about Dutch history. I had a great time.

The tour guide was very helpful, answering any questions we had, friendly and very informative.
Free toilets are available at the cheese factory and on the canal.
The highlights for me were the windmills and the cheese factory - very interesting to see how the cheese and clogs was made.
Negatives for me involved that the timing for lunch was a bit rushed - would recommend bringing lunch, especially if picky with food as there wasn’t a wide selection of restaurants, but you will have to sit outside. There wasn’t much free time to explore for yourself (Edam and Marken) as you get guided in these places but this is only a negative if you want to explore for longer than the allotted time.

Was disappointed. The day consisted of a stop at Zaanse Schans to take photos of windmills, there is a gift shop and food available. Next stop was Edam where tour guide walked us through the village providing history/info along the way (no free time here). Then next stop was to see cheese making and clog demonstration, this was purely a sales stop, the demos were like 5 min each and were basically a “this is how we make cheese”. A demonstration in my book is where you actually see them making the product. The stop at Volendam is pretty much just a stop to have lunch where a restaurant has been booked, however you can choose to eat elsewhere and have a look around. Last stop was Marken and again we did another guided walk through the village learning about its history. Overall thought it was overpriced. Tour guide was very knowledgeable though. I would suggest just taking a bus or train to these places yourself.

We stopped in fishing port of Volendam for lunch approx 40-50 minute. There are mainly seafood restaurants and fast food eateries here however there are areas along the promenade where you can sit and soak in the sea atmosphere, wander through the shops and have your packed lunch.

We booked the Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam and Marken day trip with canal cruise. Does the canal cruise immediately follow the bus tour? How long is the canal cruise and where does the cruise end?

Canal cruise usually is an hour long circuit. Most of them usually start from the main central Amsterdam station area and drop back at the origin.
