This trip was great and just as promised. The villages were beautiful and I enjoyed the inclusion of demonstrations from the clog and cheese makers. The tour guide was very personable and entertaining. I would recommend for those that have a full day to dedicate to seeing beautiful Zaanse Schans and Giethoorn, as well as the scenery along the way.

Extraordinary experience in The Netherlands from a quaint windmill village to an exploration of massive reclaimed land. The ingenuity of the Dutch was on display in the workings of various windmills, crafting shoes from poplar wood, to the engineering of the famous dikes and the verdant farmland they make possible. Evidence of that was in the apples, pears and strawberries we tasted at a roadside produce stand. Delicious! Finally, we experienced life in a village of thatched roof houses reachable only by canal boat.

I wish I could give this 6 stars. I have done tours before but Fernando is by far my favorite tour guide I have ever had. He was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the area and had plenty of stories and facts that kept us engaged the entire time. Rock on!!

What a wonderful day out! Highly recommend. We felt lucky to get a place last minute after cancellation by another tour company. Well run tour with ample time at each site. Ibrahim was a fabulous tour guide and he worked hard to engage with the entire group. Zaanse Schans is nice but Giethoorn is simply amazing. It should not be missed on any tour of Amsterdam and this is a great tour option to see it.

Wonderful excursion to the countryside outside of Amsterdam! Saeed was our very informative and humorous guide, Tom was our safe driver. Great combination of guided tours and free time. Good amount of walking to see everything if you are a senior, wear comfy shoes. Worth the price for a great experience!

Had a fantastic time on the day tour. Our guide Fernando was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable, keeping us entertained with so many interesting facts and stories. We did not feel at all rushed at either location with plenty of free time to wonder, take pictures or visit gift shops. I would recommend this tour

A fantastic feature of my Netherlands trip!
I'm quite familiar with coach day trips in the UK, so I knew what to expect, but Fernando and the Dutchtrips team really knocked it out of the park. We spent a fair chunk of time on the coach but Fernando kept us entertained with stories and interesting facts about the Netherlands, where he's called home for 30 years. He's a very amiable guy (a musician originally) who's incredibly passionate about his job.
We were blessed to have some amazing sunshine which just enhanced the trip, but a lot of it is outside so pack for the weather. You'll get a bottle of water from Dutchtrips free of charge, and a nice cup of coffee (and a stroopwafel) before you board the tour-boat in Giethoorn, both lovely little touches.
Zaanse Schans was a stunning location - there are plenty of tourists about including other guided trips, but everyone had their own time slots to enjoy the clogs and cheese so we didn't trip over each other. I particularly enjoyed the Henri Willig cheese farm shop - it is pricey, but quality stuff and there's so many samples to indulge in. The chap who took us through the cheesemaking process was jovial and entertaining. Don't forget to drop in on the bakery just up the path from the main bridge: the scents emanating from that little building are just divine, and there's a tiny little display room at the back with recipes for speculaas. There are, of course, gift shops but no pressure to buy anything and they're still fun to look around. I didn't enter the windmills as we didn't have enough time, but the weather was so good I was happy enough to walk around and watch the sails turning.
We drove from Zaanse Schans to pick up more tourists outside a Shell garage, and continued on to Giethoorn. It's so unique and I really enjoyed the canal ride while munching my free cookie. The houses are right out of a Bob Ross painting or a Ghibli movie! Our captain was a funny, warm-hearted guy who knows the canals like the back of his hand and while he must do this tour day-in-day-out he didn't sound tired or rehearsed, just very happy to share what he knew. You have some time after your tour to do your own exploration; I took advantage of this time to try a raw herring sandwich at Vishandel, and take plenty of pictures at my own leisure. Lots of people of many nationalities were milling about happily, eating ice-cream and enjoying the atmosphere.
(Not relevant to Dutchtrips, but worth a note to anyone going to Giethoorn: as I went up the path heading towards the Olde Maat Uus, there was a chap on the corner grilling people about their religious faith. I'm not sure if this is a usual occurrence or if he's a resident, but it was unexpected and a little upsetting. Worth keeping an eye out if you want to avoid intense theological debate on your holiday!)
Before heading back to the coach, I took some time to have a coffee at TwentySeven on the canalfront and people-watch. Excellent service and delicious drinks - my oat-milk cappuccino came with a tiny, nutty brownie bite on a stick. Lovely!
We made it back to Amsterdam right on time. We were dropped off just outside Centraal Station so you're not too far from the original pick-up point (unless you got on at the Shell station). Fernando and his colleague stick around outside the coach to make sure you're alright, so if you need help getting to where you need to be, I'm sure they'd be happy to give you directions. I bid farewell to him and the new friends I made during the tour, and headed back to my hotel for a much-needed meal and a sleep before my flight home.
If I were staying longer in the country, I'd definitely sign up for their Rotterdam, Delft and The Hague combination tour. Highly recommended!

Hi, What type of electric boat will be used for the tour in Giethoorn? The small ones without any coverings? Or the big ones with coverings? How many ppl per boat?

Hello, is the boat tour self-drive or guided? I plan to go in early February, is the weather suitable for boat tour? Thanks

Hi :) The tour we ordered via Tripadviser included a guided tour on a boat. After the guided tour you will have some time on your own to explore the village. So, you can rent a small boat and try to row through many other crashing boats :) You do not need to have a ‘driving license’ to row the boats. Have a nice trip!

Hi! I plan to go on this tour with my mom. She can walk well enough, but gets tired easily. Can we take a folding travel wheelchair with us in case she gets tired?
Thanks!

Probably but ask about it when you make your reservation. I wish I'd had a transport chair on my visit it would have been more enjoyable. If you are assigned to Saeed he uses a van that seats 6 in the back. It did have a " trunk space" just not sure how large.
I hope it works out for you, it is a long day trip and so much beautiful area to see. There is a trip on one of the canals too. She will need to have assistance to board and disembark the boat. It's all sitting once she is onboard. Have fun. A true memory awaits.

Hello! I am thinking of doing this tour end of December. What is Giethoorn normally like around this time? Is the town/are the lakes typically accessible? I’m not sure whether this tour will be worth doing so deep in the winter
Thanks!

We done this tour in first half of November during which the weather was only overcast and windy which was still accessible as usual. I am not sure what will there be look like in winter with snow. Please see if other people with experience in this season can help.
