I had just arrived in Brussels in the morning and started to search through viator for local activities I could do. I found this workshop and signed up about 2 hours before the class start time. For the $50 price point and 2.5-hour class, I thought it was a better deal than some others I saw. Easy online booking through viator. If you sign up last minute like me, be sure to do it 1-2 hours before class starts because they need 45 min to melt the chocolate and have it ready for the workshop. Hence why they don’t take walk-ins.
The workshop was a little challenging to find because there is no signage on the building or something to make it stand out. Located on a quiet street just next to a fruit stand/bodega. You’ll have to ring a buzzer to get in the first door and the sign for the workshop is posted on the second door. Hopefully they post better signs outside so it can easily be found.
Once inside, grab an apron and settle into a chocolate making station. They have a coat rack, restrooms, free Wi-Fi (just ask for the password), and drinking water. Everyone works in pairs. I was solo but was paired with another solo traveler. Great way to meet new people! If there aren’t enough pairs, you can work with the instructor too.
The instructor will explain each step in the process and demonstrate what to do before we try it. The chocolate has been prepped 45 min before class and we started by adding in more chocolate chips and mixing until the temperature was just right. We started off by making the mendiants (flat disc like chocolate) and then went into the more complicated art of making pralines. They provide walnuts, almonds, cashews, and raisins as toppings for these. When you get to the praline portion, you’ll make a ganache and have the option to fill the chocolates in the molds with 3 different syrup flavors or candied Brazil nuts. Once done, the praline molds are placed in the freezer. Any remaining chocolate and ganache is made into a delicious hot chocolate while we wait for the chocolates to cool in the freezer. Ultimately, you’ll walk away with a box full of milk and dark chocolates you make in class (approximately 25 pieces).
Overall, great way to experience a bit of Brussels and make your own Belgian chocolates! Solo or in a group, this is an enjoyable activity taught in English.

Had a wonderful time creating our own chocolates. The host was welcoming and explained the process clearly. Loved sampling as we went. The hot chocolate was delicious! You leave with about 35 of your own chocolates. So much fun!

I simply can not recommend this experience enough. My partner and I visited Brussels for the first time and this was one of the highlights of our trip. We had everything we needed to make the most delicious chocolates and the lady running the class was so knowledgable but fun and really encouraged and helped us have the best time. This class is a MUST if you’re visiting, if not for the yummy chocolates then for the fun and experience!

Never made chocolates before and had a great and fun experience. Met a lot of nice people travelling from all parts of the world. Our host was great and she made the whole experience memorable. Just finished all the chocolates we made, wish we had more!

This was a wonderful experience that I would absolutely recommend to anyone. The instructor gave very clear, concise directions. The workshop was organized & timed extremely well - chocolate was pre-heated and while we waited for our trays to cool, we would start another mini project, or enjoy hot chocolate while waiting for all of our sweet treats to take shape.
I went as a solo traveler, and as everyone else was in pairs, I was in a group of 3 with two other female solo travelers! It's a great way to bond with whoever you came with, or whoever you meet in class.
Overall, it was very well priced, I feel like I learned a lot and did something fun & interactive in Brussels, and walked away with chocolates to share with my friends & fam instead of the usual souvenirs (but I bought some of those too!)
To note, I got turned around in the area and was about 5 mins late, but I felt like I was walking in to a class that started about 15 mins prior. I would recommend that you show up about 10 mins early just to avoid that feeling.

The workshop was better than expected and so much fun. We prepared pralines as well as chocolate with toppings, and the host also provided us with freshly made hot chocolate. The only thing I wish was included was for the host to show us the way that cocoa is extracted from the beans.

Hi Ricky,
Good question! It was on a ground floor level so access to it would be okay.., the tables/ benches were about belly button height... I’m 167cm tall. And it the class was very full. I think if you let them know they could do it with possibly a lower table. I don’t recall the bathrooms.
Hope this helps,
Sue
