Warning to others: they cancel tours mere minutes in advance if they don’t have enough people (to make a big enough profit, I guess…)
After travelling all the way to the Azores with a dream of seeing whales, we rented a car and drove half an hour to the meeting point, only to be told that our whale watching excursion has been cancelled. The guide said that they emailed us but the only email that we received is after we requested a refund, at which point they asked why we didn’t attend a tour (??). The company had my phone number (you have to fill out a contact form when booking) but didn’t try to call me in advance. I am not only disappointed by the lack of communication and professionalism on part of Terra Azul, but even more about the lack of integrity and goodwill that they display - they know that tourists come from far and wide just to see whales and if we had known in advance, we could have booked a tour with another company. On a calm day in the ocean, there was no reason for the tour to be cancelled last minute.

Très bon accueil. La sortie s'est faite dans l'après-midi. C'était génial. Dommage qu'il y avait un peu de vagues. Notre guide Diane était très bien avec de bonnes explications. Nous avons vu des baleines pilotes, à bosses, dauphins communs & pintados. Très très bonne expérience. Que la nature est belle.

Great crew & staff
Gave a talk on the conservation they are involved in and the sea life around the azores

We saw three different species of animal. First, after about 15 minutes, we saw several sperm whales, feeding and frolicking. Then we headed a little west along the coast and found a school of Atlantic spotted dolphins and they were very very animated. Finally on the way back to Shore, we came across a giant school of bottlenose dolphins. There may have been 30 or 40 of them.
Ricar and our pilot were exemplary. The staff at the office were amazing and made extraordinary efforts to make sure we all got back to the ship in Ponta Delgado with plenty of time to spare. This one is 10 out of 10 folks.

Uma experiência completa desde o acolhimento, passando pela ação de sensibilização no momento do brifing, a viagem de alta velocidade em mar alto, a espera, a sensação de pertencer a algo maior e ver com coração aberto um majestoso cachalote a par dos golfinhos anteriormente avistados. Que tarde incrível!!!
Toda a equipe de mar e a de terra também, é simplesmente fantástica. Em terra continua a experiência mostrando com toda a paixão a biodiversidade marinha.

A wonderful, unforgettable experience. Really liked the company's commitment to respect and protect these great animals. We saw different dolphins and a humbach whale. Especial thanks to our great guide (sorry, forgot your name but you are French😀) for your enthusiasm and expertise. It was also really nice to see the island from the sea and hear about its history. Great value for money!

Es war eine tolle Tour, können wir definitiv weiterempfehlen, auch wenn wir „nur“ Delfine gesehen haben. Unserem Guide hat man die Leidenschaft angemerkt und dass das wohl der Tiere im Vordergrund steht.
Die Boote haben eine gute Größe und es wird darauf geachtet dass jeder alles sehen kann.
Direkt am Hafen hat es auch einige Parkplätze und WCs.
Normale Kleidung ist ausreichend, Tasche oder Rucksack kann auch mitgenommen werden - wir wurden hauptsächlich von oben nass (kurzer Regenschauer). Hosen und Jacken die wasserabweisend sind stehen vor Ort zu Verfügung.
Die Boote haben eine gute Größe und es wird darauf geachtet dass jeder alles sehen kann.
Direkt am Hafen hat es auch einige Parkplätze und WCs.

We enjoyed this trip and saw many dolphins and the tail of a sperm whale. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The boat is a zodiac with row seats, so you need to be prepared to straddle a very hard bench chair for 3 hours.

It was one of the greatest experiences!! I really want to thank the team, everything was perfect! They made us feel comfortable, explained us a lot of interesting stuff, shared their experience and knowledge! Our skipper was Miguel and our guide was Guy! Thanks a lot! ☺️ We really appreciate it!! We were very lucky to see humpback whales and many dolphins (bottlenose, common and stripped). Thanks a lot once again!! 🐳🐳

When I did my research ( if talking about whales ) most migrate through in May ( the big ones like the blue and fin whales) apparently sperm whales can be sighted all year. Bear in mind you may not see any. You will most likely see dolphins though . There are loads of native flowers which bloom in the summer , which in the uk we would class as expensive ones from the florist eg birds of paradise . If you google best time to see whales in Azores it will give you some ideas

As stated on their TripAdvisor page, hotel pickup and drop-off are offered, but I'm not sure they would transport to and from Ponta Delgada, as it's a fair distance from Vila Franca do Campo. They have a hotel list on the checkout page when you book the tour. Your best bet is to call them directly or send them a message via their website.

Does this tour start snd finish in Ponta Delgada only? Does this your include snorkeling time at Princess Islet or just a drive around? Thank you

When we booked in May this year we started and finished from the Marian pints Delgada . We then did a circular route around the outside of the islet . We did not snorkel. Sea Colors offer an opportunity to snorkel with dolphins ( we went on another trip with them ) although it was a very choppy day on that trip so it wasn’t possible. Be aware on any of the boat trips that it is far from a certainty you will see a whale , although you will almost certainly see dolphins. The whales are mostly migrating through and stay underwater for up to 45 mins and whilst this may sound silly / obvious , when you go out in the rib boats you realise how diff it is to spot them. We were unlucky with terra azul ( but did see striped and bottle nosed dolphins as per pics posted ) and with sea Color’s we were lucky to see a blue whale for a few seconds . Don’t expect to get any pictures of whales bursting up into the air etc ( you would have to be extremely lucky ) the trips and the excitement of the possibility of spotting a whale is just as enjoyable though !!

We will be cruising in April 2022 and will arrive on 24 Apr. We are estimated to arrive at 0800. Could I arrange a pick up at the cruise dock - The Emerald Princess. I hope to encourage additional 'Cruise Critic' passengers to join us (two at least). Thanks for your consideration.
