We had a lot of fun, lot's of cultural insights and the food was very unexpected. Our guide Joao was a fantastic storyteller and had very good recommendations.

This was a really great tour. So much food in a day that told the history of the post colonial influence on Portuguese food.

I learned, ate and enjoyed myself while exploring Lisbon with a new friend, our fantastic guide Joao. I highly recommend this excellent tour. The food is incredible, the history and cultural experience unlike anything else I found during my time in Lisbon. We got to try a LOT of food, so come hungry!

Don’t walk ( even though it’s a walking tour) but run to these! They are the best! This was our 7th ( did our 8th in Porto a couple days later) and it was as great as all the others we’ve done. It’s a great way to see the city/area while eating fantastic and unique food while enjoying fun company along the way. Every guide we’ve had the pleasure to be with has been informative, engaging, and fun….like you’re walking around with a long lost friend while meeting new friends along the way!

Excellent food and nice to link dishes to their history. It was great to visit places I wouldn't even have known to go to on my own. Would do another culinary backstreet tour in another city!

Do this tour! An excellent introduction to the history of Portugal down to present day immigration patterns, and how it has played out in food. Joao (Johnny) was both knowledgeable and fun, and clearly had wonderful relationships with the restauranteurs on the tour. Both your beliefs and taste buds will be challenged (in a good way!)
If you are going to be spending a few days in Lisbon, would highly recommend doing this tour on the first day; it will inform the rest of your stay.

Our host or guide, João, was just awesome! Very fluent in English, very knowledgeable, a whole heap of fun, highly responsive, encouraged questions, just such a delightful and entertaining personality! And of course, the food was simply delicious. We learned a lot, ate even more, had a lot of fun, walked off some of our calories at the same time, highly recommend!

We were surprised by the amount of history we received and the quality of the restaurants we were exposed to. Authentic Portuguese and so delicious. It was made very special by our outstanding tour guide, “Johnny”.

Ines was an experienced and knowledgeable guide, well versed in the cultural and political. We tried foods we would never have found on our own. Loved the cachulpa, and would have gone back if our schedule had allowed. Stopping at a Brazilian market, I picked up unsweetened guava and passion fruit juices to enjoy later. We even got to try baobab fruit juice from a vendor. Come hungry because you will be very well fed.
