We spent a great day learning about Port and wine making with our guide Anselmo in the scenic Duoro valley. He took us a little off the beaten track to scenic view points and lovely Quintas

Anselmo was a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable and entertaining. Visited 2 wineries and had a lovely river cruise. The scenery was beautiful.

I really appreciated how Andre maneuvered the days schedule to make the most out our visit! I particularly enjoyed the wine making tour and learning first hand about the process… and, of course, the wine!

Anselmo was such an amazing tour guide. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience with him. He made the 1.5 hour car ride seem quick and told us stories about the Douro and Portugal itself. He took us to a boat tour then visited 2 estates. At the first, we tried some wine and saw the wine making process. At the second, we had an amazing lunch complete with too much wine! The Douro River Valley is such a beautiful place to visit and Anselmo was a great part of this trip with our family.

This tour excites all of ones' senses. The beauty of the Douro valley seen from several vantage points, the sound of the wind on top of the hills, the touch of the fresh grapes, the taste of the excellent lunch and tasting at two local wineries, the sweet smell of port.
Making it all the more fun was Anselmo who is always smiling and proud to share his specially selected places to visit making our tour very distinctive with special memories.
Our private lunch at a winery specially selected by Anselmo was one our our trip highlights as was our visit of a separate port winery.
We highly recommend this tour and Anselmo.

The Douro Valley trip was amazing and Gustavo was an excellent host. My husband and I took in the scenery, enjoyed a very tasty lunch along the way, a boat ride, and a visit to an outstanding vineyard all in the luxury of a clean Jaguar. Gustavo’s deep interest in Portugal’s history and politics added to our understanding of the valley. I highly recommend this tour — your eyes won’t believe the magical beauty!

We had a great day touring the Douro Valley with Anselmo. He was interesting and knowledgeable as well as fun to be with. The car was very comfortable and we enjoyed the peaceful boat ride. The picnic lunch was delicious and the setting simply perfect. All and all, a fantastic day. We highly recommend this tour.

Anselmo was an awesome guide! He made this day trip all worth it. The Douro is so peaceful and quiet and not to mention beautiful. All the places we went to were just amazing and the wine was strong and good. This is well worth it. Anselmo has a lot of knowledge of the valley, wine, and Porto in general, which made him an even better guide. If you book this, request him and he won't dissappoint. Trust me.

Carlos was simply fantastic. Our somewhat 11th hour decision to spend a day in the Douro turned out to be one of the best of the trip. In fact, if anything, we regret not spending more time in the Douro Valley. The wine region is unlike any I’ve seen elsewhere. The views in California, France, Italy or even Argentina cannot compare. Carlos’ facilitation of vineyard visits and a spectacular lunch delivered on exactly what one would hope when booking a private tour. I would use him again in a heartbeat and have already recommended the the same to friends who are coming to Portugal. We would definitely come back and perhaps choose to visit smaller vineyards. Again, he did exactly as we requested and has left us wanting more.

This was our second excursion using “withlocals” while in Portugal – and like the first one with Silvia in Lisbon (Sintra and Cascais) – we were extremely happy with the guides and the services provided.
In this instance, we were going on a private day trip through the Douro Valley. I had selected Gustavo when I had made the original booking. He picked us up in front of our hotel in his gleaming, air conditioned, Mercedes Benz, ready to start our adventure. It was a gorgeous day – sunny and very warm – after all, it was the end of June, 2019. (I know, this review is way overdue).
To say that Gustavo is simply a tour guide is an understatement. He has a wealth of knowledge about a number of worldly subjects, including history, and of course almost everything related to Porto, the Douro Valley, and Portugal, itself. As we drove towards the valley, Gustavo provided commentary on the areas that we were passing through and what to expect in the Douro region itself. We stopped in various spots along the way to take in the views and to take pictures. We arrived in Pinhão and hopped on a rabelo boat for a glide up and down the Douro River. Unfortunately, the beauty and peacefulness of this boat ride was disturbed by an overzealous 30-something nerd with more camera lenses than a photographer following the Tour de France, and an apparent inability to operate a drone. If you ask Gustavo, he may remember this individual and his particular escapades that day.
The highlight of our day, howver, was our lunch at Quinta da Roêda, a Croft family port house. As we arrived, we saw two long rows of tables set up inside – for a meal set for 100 of your closest friends, aka a bus tour – which he lead us by and brought us out onto the terrace. He asked us to take in the scenery for a few minutes as he would be back shortly. As we viewed the surrounding vineyards, the Douro River below, and inhaled the fresh air, my wife noticed a little house on its own that appeared to be set up for lunch. We looked in and thought, OMG, this would be so beautiful. Gustavo rejoined us with 3 refreshing glasses of wine and said that lunch would be on its way shortly. When my wife mentioned the little house, Gustavo commented that it was reserved for some special guests that day. As we were turning to walk away, he said, “and those guests are us.”
We probably sat there for 2 to 3 hours – we enjoyed wide sampling of food along with various wines. The food and wine almost seemed endless. We talked about everything under the sun; life in Portugal; life in Canada; events happening around the world. And despite the heat, the little house kept us cool as it was perfectly situated to take advantage of the breeze – and of course, the views. We didn’t want to leave, but as it was getting late in the afternoon, it was time to go. Gustavo did not rush us at all. In fact, I think that he would have stayed there for dinner if given the choice.
He took us on a different route back to Porto. We again stopped in various spots to take in the views and to take pictures. Gustavo made this such an enjoyable day for us, we could not thank him enough. If you are looking for a wonderful experience in the Douro Valley, this is the tour to take – and make sure that you ask for Gustavo.
Muito Obrigado, Gustavo!

Is there any lunch provided on this tour? Or is there an opportunity to buy lunch at any of the stops?
撰写日期:2021年11月3日
Is there a way to do a shorter tour like 830 to 3 with boat and wineries?
撰写日期:2019年7月22日
Why this tour is longer than you want is it involves about a 90 minute drive to and from the Duoro Valley!

Hi, my girlfriend and I were interested in booking a private tour, but were a little confused as to the itinerary? Once we arrive in the Douro Valley, is all the time spent on the boat? While we would enjoy a short boat ride, we would also want to actually stop at wineries. Is that doable?
撰写日期:2019年4月5日
Hi, yes you can go to both the wineries and do the boat ride. The boat ride is about an hour and a half. I did a boat ride, lunch and went to only one winery. Since it’s a private tour you can definitely adjust to go to more wineries if you prefer. Hope this helps!

Oi gostaria de saber se tem parada em Vila Real se não, se há alguma viagem que tenha Vila Real
撰写日期:2019年2月28日
Hello, We were wondering how many wineries you visit on the trip?
撰写日期:2019年2月14日
Just the croft winery, but we see MANY vineyards both in the car and on the boat ride.
