Demi was amazing. We learned about the culture of Greek cooking and about each other in the hour hours we spent walking the city and eating the food. The best part of the trip was the reading of the coffee grounds after drinking. Although silly (as she says) we had many laughs and pondering afterwards. Thank you for making our day a pleasant one.

We took a food tour with Alternative Athens. The guide was Pavlina. She was extremely nice and knowledgeable. We enjoyed almost 4 hours walking and tasting greek food and learning their origins. Highly recommended.

Elena was a delightful guide for our food tour through Athens! We had an excellent time sampling baklava, Turkish coffee, olive oil, souvlaki, taverna food, and more. Such a lovely day—would highly recommend. Thank you, Elena!

Notre guide Léo nous a fait une charmante visite d’Athènes, mêlant gastronomie, histoire et architecture, bien que la balade dure plus de trois heures, pas une minute d’ennui.

This food tour was the fastest way to get acclimated with the culture and experience so many favorite traditional Greek foods! Our tour guide Antigoni was so knowledgeable and was like traveling with a close friend! One of the highlights of our Greece experience for sure!

We had the best time! Josephine was kind and an engaging tour guide that answered our questions and gave us a memorable experience in Athens. I was there with my husband on our honeymoon and we were paired with 3 other families during our tour. In total 10 of us. It was so fun to experience different foods from small, locally revered places most of us would never find. The walk a great way to view the city and experience local foods. My favorite was the moussaka and the olive oil tasting (with cheese, local bread, olive tapenade and eggplant spread)! We tried baklava, turkish coffee, pork souvlaki and more. My husband and I really enjoyed the tour, learning about food and culture in Athens. Would recommend!

Our guide was awesome! The culture and history of Greece is so rich and this tour reflects how the food of Greece and the people who created Greek food is one of those foundations which makes and enhances that culture!

I always find food tours as a good way to get the sense of a new city, and the Alternative Athens tour with Elena did not disappoint. Elena was very thoughtful in the tour design and the information that she shared. The food selections were tasty classics, and delightfully slightly off the beaten path.

I’ve taken many food tours around the world and can say that this was one of the best. Our guide Elena was outstanding. She was super personable, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. The food stops were varied and the amount of food offered was substantial. I am so happy that I did this tour!

I would like to book this tour for our trip in October. We have a plane to catch at 4.30pm from Athens Santorini, therefore we would have to leave the Hotel at around 1.30pm latest. If the tour starts at 10 what time does it finish? If we go on this food tour, would we be able to make it back in time to our hotel and to the airport for our 4.30pm flight? Thank you!!

Yes! A lot of non-meat options. Only the souvlaki had meat and a couple of dishes at the taverna. But there was so much food, plenty of options without meat.

Does this food tour offer a lot of food? There are so many to choose from and I have it narrowed down to this one and another one. I’m looking to be well fed.

Yes! They recommended a light breakfast before our tour and I’m glad I didn’t eat anything prior. Each stop has something to eat, ranging from a share of bougatsa to half a koulouri to baklava. We tasted different honeys, olive tapenade, and olive oils with bread. We had souvlaki, and tapas consisting of meatballs, potatoes, and domades. Your tour may vary somewhat as some places were closed during ours due to the holiday, but I don’t think you’ll leave hungry!

My sister and I are staying at the Electra Hotel Athens and I would like to know how close this is to the tour start and end locations. Also, how many hours is this walking tour? Thank you!

The Electra is very close (5 min walking)to Syntagma Square which is where we met the tour. We started a bookstore in the square. When you sign up (I used trip advisor to book the tour) they give very clear instructions about where to meet and when. Wear sensible walking shoe because you do walk for four hours. This food tour was the highlight of our trip to Athens! The tour guide gives you directions to get back to your hotel. Athens is very walkable!
