We are a well-traveled family and have booked a number of boating excursions over the years. We’ve also grown up around the water and are experienced boaters ourselves.
Prior to departure, we hadn’t been contacted so we called to confirm where to meet, what time and the name of the vessel. Upon arrival, as a family with children (boys ages 5, 9, and 11), this guide did not know how to interact with us and was very socially reserved, which made for awkward conversation.
When we reached an island to swim, he tied the anchor line around a thin cable on the boat railing rather than the secure cleat on the bow of the boat. One of our boys noticed this and brought it to our attention while the captain was below deck. Moments later, to no surprise, the boat line came loose and the boat drifted into shallow water.
The captain came to the bow and immediately started shouting our boys were “naughty” and accused them of untying the boat. We explained we had been with them on the bow the entire time and none of us had touched it. He said there was no way it came loose on its own and that our boys were the cause. The captain anchored his boat again (this time to a proper cleat).
We were shocked and at a loss for words at his attitude. Needless to say, we were quite upset at the accusation and unprofessionalism. He was visibly frustrated when the children stood up on the boat for the remainder of the long boat ride back and did not want them moving about despite calm waters, a difficult thing for little ones at sea for a full day. We felt constantly on edge. He truly took the fun out of the day.
Also worth noting, the adults enjoyed the food (all vegetarian with spices, heavier cheese) but there was nothing oriented specifically for children. We ended up buying them food at a hut on the beach.
In the end, this would be a good option for adults/couples, but not recommended for families with school age children.

Thanks a lot for your kind review. Your group untied the boat while the skipper was preparing your meal and the boat drifted and run aground. The skipper was calm and professional. He manage to free the boat and evaluated the situation. Then he completed the program of the excursion calm and safe. Corrective actions took place in order to prevent similar situations in the future.

We have had an excellent experience. We took a private trip with 4 friends. Captain George was kind and caring. We were lucky to sail some parts entirely without engine, which was so serene and beautiful.
There are large boats that drop tourists off at Gramvousa Island, so our private boat allowed us to escape the crowds. Same story at Balos bay.
The captain was patient and caring. He served a beautiful home-cooked Greek lunch, and fresh fruits in the later afternoon. There were plenty of cold drinks. We all had a very relaxing time and certainly recommend Mikros Naftilos for a visit to Gramvousa&Balos!

George was absolutely amazing!! My boyfriend booked this boat trip for my 30th birthday and it was everything I could have hoped for and more. We sailed the beautiful Aegean Sea, did an epic hike up the fortress on Gramvousa (the views are STUNNING), had the most delicious Greek lunch onboard the boat, then sailed to the iconic Balos Lagoon. At Balos we did some snorkeling then walked the beach for 2 hours before heading back to the boat. On the way back, we sailed with an entire pod of dolphins that stuck with our boat for about 10 minutes! It was an experience of a lifetime. George was so chill and kind as well. 100% recommend.

We had a great day sailing with Captain George! Balos Lagoon was so beautiful to sail into and the hike to the ruins on Gramvousa Island was amazing! Vistas were fantastic! We all had a great time. Lunch was delish!!! A great way to spend the day!

Amazing day, stunning views, going under sail, swimming from the boat, delicious lunch, friendly and professional captain - it‘s not a full list of the positive emotions on that day!

We had the most wonderful exclusive day on Mikros Naftilos. George was a great host, mastering being discrete while being here for all our needs. He really made us feel like we were owning a boat for the day. Lunch was delicious and plentiful. We managed to avoid the crowds and busy ferries, going to Gramvousa first, snorkeling before going up the fort, and then onto Balos. We couldn't recommend this experience enough!

Nous avons passé une excellente journée à bord du voilier avec le capitaine George. Tout a été parfait! Le bateau est très agréable, George est très accueillant, nous avons très bien mangé, plats typiques grecs, nous avons vu des endroits splendides. Bref, nous recommandons à 100% si vous souhaitez voir Balos et Gramvoussa. Merci encore George!

Nous avons passé une superbe journée à bord du Mikros Naftilos avec Georges et Georges. Nous avons navigué dans les eaux turquoises de Balos et Gramvousa mais également dans une petite crique magnifique ou nous avons pu sauter du bateau, nager jusqu'à la plage et faire du snorkeling.

Der Trip war eines unserer Highlights vom Urlaub. Skipper war super, Essen (griechische Spezialitäten) war sehr lecker, Buchten (zuerst Balos und dann Gramvousa) waren der waaaahnsinn.. ein cooles Erlebnis für jeden der Kretas Buchten über Seeweg erreichen will 😍👌🏽

Wir hatten mit dem Segelboot "Mikros Naftilos" einen unglaublich schönen Urlaubstag. Das Boot stand uns pünktlich zur Verfügung und wir konnten sofort nach einer kurzen Einweisung Richtung Lagune Balos starten. Im Preis inbegriffen sind sämtliche Getränke (Bier,Wein, Fanta, Cola, Wasser) und ein super leckeres landestypisches Mittagessen das wir an Bord eingenommen haben. Wir bekamen Schnorchelausrüstung gestellt, so dass wir direkt vom Boot aus ins tolle türkisblaue Wasser springen konnten. Beide Buchten (Balos und Gramvousa) werden ständig mit großen Fähren die mehrere hundert Menschen an Bord haben angefahren. Schrecklich!!!!! Wir haben an Bord der Mikros Naftilos eine Oase erleben dürfen und konnten beide Inseln in aller Ruhe für uns bestaunen. Ein großes Lob an die Crew und spart Euch das Geld für die Fähre und nehmt ein Segelboot.

We are in chania and we want to do a full day trip either first of August or second
We have a car and we can come to where the boat is appreciate a full offer including the details of the day and the food and drinks menu
We can also share the boat with another group if it is cheaper than the private tour
