We rented the basic wifi modem. It was fast and easy pickup at the airport. The modem was easy to operate. We always has 4g fast data. GPS, email, texting etc. were seamless. The return was easy too with the stamped box and a YouTube video showing you exactly where in the airport to deposit it. I recommend this service. It saved us $50 compared to Verizon and data was never throttled.

I had an unfortunate tragedy on our flight to Iceland. My wife passed away on the plane. When Trawire learned of my situation, a rep actually brought the hotspot device to my hotel for me and, on top of that, refunded the entire rental charge. They also happily extended the rental for the duration of my extended time there. Any company that would treat a customer with such care and concern is certainly one I can not recommend enough

This hotspot was incredibly handy. It was a bit hard to stomach the $10/day for 15 days at first, but it was so invaluable it was absolutely worth it. I’d do it again in a heart beat. There were only a few spots on the ring road we lost service briefly but it was solid otherwise!

We'd honestly give 6 stars if we could! Pick-up and return processes were clear and easy. Connectivity throughout our tour of Iceland's Ring Road was astounding. I swear this thing was more reliable than our home Wi-Fi network. We only had drops in service a couple of times (seemingly only in very busy areas). We seemed to keep connection even in the remotest of places we went, which was incredibly helpful.
Especially given that both my wife and I could connect our devices to one hotspot, we wouldn't hesitate to rent again if we return to Iceland. Highly recommended.

Overall I had a positive experience renting the Wifi. Finding the location at the airport was the hardest mission. Thankfully our pickup person knew where to go. It was a hot dog stand that issued out the Tarawire. LOL.
Using the unit in Iceland was a breeze. I'd just have to say that when you check it out, the person before you may have not fully charged the unit. Other than that, all was good. Oh and make sure to give yourself time to find a post box. I had to hunt one down near my hotel.

On pick-up of my rental, I was given a wifi that seemed quite old and dated. This should've been the first clue. A few hours later, it was dead. On trying to charge it with their included wire, the plug barely stayed in. After a few tries and finally getting the wire to stay plugged, it seemed like it was charging. A few more hours later, it was still not working. After charging it overnight, the thing was still dead. I contacted them via email since I didn't have calling access and it was also the weekend. They were quick to reply and we tried a few troubleshooting ideas. Nothing worked, so I asked for a refund. I was told to return it and once they received it, I would get my money back. Mind you, the return box they give you comes with a stamp and no tracking of any kind. We were on the road and hours away. I was lucky to find a postal box inside a gas station, so I dropped it off and emailed them. Two weeks later, I checked my credit card and saw nothing returned. I contacted them to remind them of the promise of a refund. I received no replies, nothing! Just turn your international data on. It's more reliable, less headache, and just about the same price. This company is a joke and a rip-off! Absolutely no ethics.

The pocket wifi worked flawlessly. A few times we lost connectivity in remote areas. The connection speed was good. We had 4 devices hooked up to it - mostly using Google maps, some surfing for restaurants and information, some movie streaming. At the end of the day, we had 25-35% battery life remaining.
The most difficult part of using the pocket wifi was figuring out pick up and drop off locations, which is why I'm writing this review.
Pick up: at the 1011 store, just before leaving Keflavik airport. They have a drawer full of these, all charged and ready to go. I was able to select one that was newer.
Drop off: bright red postal box, 1st floor, by the "Odd size" baggage check in area. The box is not that obvious (esp since I didn't even know what color it was). It is by the back wall.
By the way, I was able to accidentally sign into someone else's wifi box using the pwd assigned to me by the company. I wouldn't use the service for banking!

Item was easy to collect upon arrival and had comprehensive instructions on setting up. In fact our device seemed to set itself up.
The device worked perfectly for the duration of our 7 day holiday and often gave a stronger wifi connection than some of the accommodation we stayed in so we used instead of the hotel wifi.
Dead easy to return via a post box at the airtport.
A great piece of kit that worked flawlessly and was most impressive to a non -technophile like myself

Great little device that worked pretty well (maybe a few dead spots, but that's mostly because it was indoors and those places had their own available wifi) everywhere I went. The only downside is that the airport location pickup was closed due to covid-19 restrictions and therefore I had to go to a separate location off-site and pick up the device. The difficulty with that is that I had to use my own data and got slapped with roaming charges from my mobile provider (I had tried to download the map offline but idk Google was not cooperating).
Anyway, overall, 10/10 definitely recommend.

Thank you for your great review. Yes it's a tricky world we live in these days and we where hoping to open again at the airport soon but without any luck. We are looking at some alternatives inside the airport.
Good you had the knowledge of offline map as we point that out in our faq's but what a unlucky situation not to have that working...

Excellent wifi connection for our family of four, while we were traveling around Iceland. We also received a wifi modem from our car rental company, but it wasn't as reliable or fast as the Trawire modem, so we never used it. The kids were watching youtube videos and we were using google maps and websites while driving through a lot of deserted areas, without the connection dropping. We also used it at Airbnbs and hotels that didn't have reliable wifi. In addition, their customer service is absolutely top-notch. Hilmar met me personally to deliver (and pick up) the accessories package since the pick-up place forgot to give it to me. I wish more countries offered this amazing wifi service!

Hi! May i know for 7 days rental of the pocket wifi, the return day be 8th day early morning drop off when we leave keflavik or has to be the 7th day on point? Appreciate your reply, regards!
