Weather wasn’t looking good, but Janis made it work!
From the moment he picked us up at the hotel, to when he dropped us back 15-16 hours later, he took care of everything for us.
The vehicle was in perfect conditions, and he made several stops along the way to accommodate our family needs (including my frequent photo stops). He waited for us at every stop to ensure we understood what we had to do next and was always happy to help.
We provided tons of information about history, culture and interesting insights about everything.
Lastly, there’s little I can say about the train ride and the cruise, the views are just amazing!
If you have a full day and don’t mind spending a few hours driving back to Oslo, I would highly recommend this tour and Janis!

This is a great day out, combining many great views of Norway, a trip on one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world, fjord boat trip combining 3 of the best Fjords and with an excellent guide, all in one package. Yes, its a long day but for those who want to see a lot of the country with limited time to do it, it is well recommended.

I feel bad about the 3 star rating, because our guide worked really hard to give us a good trip, but this was a long, tiring day. He met us at the hotel at 8am in a Mercedes van. Right away he told us that the weather in Flam meant that the Flam Railway wasn't running, but that we would drive to Flam and that we could still do the boat trip on the Sognefjord. We started the drive, and stopped shortly after at a gas station where he filled up and suggested we got coffee. Then we continued on. The scenery was beautiful, and he worked hard to entertain us with conversation about life in Norway. As we got further into the mountains it began to snow really hard, and we had to stop to wait for a snowplough to lead us as part of a column. At some times we could barely see the hazard lights on the vehicle in front of us. As we got through the mountains the conditions improved, and we took a scenic road up a mountain to the Stegastein viewpoint, where we stopped to look at the view for about 10 minutes. This was the first significant stop since the brief coffee stop in Oslo shortly after 8am. The view was breathtaking! We finally arrived in Flam at 2.45 in the afternoon. When we arrived in Flam, the wind was really strong, and the boat was cancelled. We had a pleasant fish and chip lunch in a restaurant on the pier, spent a little time looking around the flam railway museum and some of the giftshops, and then we got in the car and began the journey back to Oslo. The snow was heavy in places on the way back, and we ended up waiting almost an hour in the car for the snowplow column to take us back through the mountains. We got back to the hotel at 11.30pm tired and hungry, having spent approximately 14 hours in the car. This trip was expensive at approximately $1800 for the two of us. The cost included the train and boat tickets, and we were given a refund of approx $250 total to compensate for that. If our guide hadn't been so considerate the day would have been a disaster. The driving conditions were awful and he must have been exhausted, but he kept smiling. Ultimately the issue was the weather, which wasn't anyone's fault.
Had the weather been different, and the train/boat rides had been possible, I'm not sure if we would have spent less time in the car or if the day would have been even longer. Despite our awesome guide, I wouldn't recommend this tour because of the uncertainty of the conditions. Maybe better in summer?

Unfortunately, the weather changed so quickly, so we couldn't predict the train stop on this day - otherwise, we would offer to change the date to a better date.

Janka was our guide and took great care of us on our private full day Flam Railway and Fjord Cruise excursion! He was easy to talk with, very informative, and included some fun stops on our drive - like stopping to see a herd of reindeer on the side of the road, and touring a Stave Church. We really appreciated his upbeat personality and highly recommend this tour.

Our driver-guide has picked us up in the morning, then we had a scenic drive to Gudangen. Such a beautiful scenery!! We enjoyed a coffee stop, then the guide made a tons of pictures of us and leaded to the boat..oh the cruise was amazing! Also the Flamsbana is breathtaking, especially when you come near waterfalls. Worth every penny!

The fjord tour described a guided adventure though wilderness and a guided commentary cruise through the fjord at Fläm to Gudvagen by way of the Fläm Railway. The overall experience was pleasant. While we expected a more hands-on and informative guided tour rather than what felt like a primarily chauffeured experience, we did enjoy ourselves. Here's my review of the tour:
From the moment we were picked up in a comfortable vehicle by a courteous and professional driver, we was greeted with a welcoming demeanor and warm smiles. The vehicle itself was clean and well-maintained, providing a comfortable ride throughout the journey. The driver's punctuality and adherence to the agreed-upon schedule were commendable, ensuring that we stayed on track and made the most of our time. The driver made sure we got to our train in Geilo, we were on our own to Fläm (one transfer). At Fläm, our driver was there waiting for us and showed us the boat we were to take and gave suggestions for eating before our departure. Our driver met us at the end of the fjord cruise where he greeted us and drove us back to our hotel.
The tour's "guided" aspect fell somewhat short of my expectations. While the driver was friendly and accommodating, there was a noticeable lack of in-depth information and storytelling that one typically expects from a guided tour. We were thinking we were going to get a lot of commentary, historical context, and interesting facts about our journey.
Instead, the driver primarily focused on navigating the roadways and providing basic directions, occasionally offering brief descriptions of landmarks as we passed by, and general conversation. While these tidbits were informative to some extent, they lacked the depth and storytelling elements that would have made the tour more in alignment with the expectation laid out in the TripAdvisor description.
I understand that the line between a driver service and a guided tour can be blurred, and perhaps the company should consider clarifying their offerings to manage customer expectations better. If the intention is to provide a primarily chauffeured experience with limited commentary, it would be beneficial to highlight that aspect more clearly in their promotional material. The experience was great and there probably wasn't much commentary worth giving so I would say this is more on Tripadvisor than the driver.
The fjord tour was more like a glorified ferry service that gave some consideration to sightseeing. There was no guided commentary. If there was one, it was strictly inside...who wants to be inside when outside is where you want to be.
That being said, I will say that the driver was accommodating to our requests and receptive to answering any questions we had along the way. His willingness to provide suggestions and adapt the itinerary to our preferences was a positive aspect of the experience. The driver's friendly demeanor and professionalism certainly contributed to an overall pleasant journey.
In conclusion, while my guided tour experience leaned more towards a chauffeured service, the comfort and convenience provided were undeniable. However, I do believe the excursion description should better explain what to expect. I don't think this excursion needed to incorporate more informative and engaging commentary. Given the type of excursion provided, our driver could not accompany us on the train or boat. The cost was a bit high but for piece of mind, it was worth it.
Despite its shortcomings as a guided tour, the chauffeured experience was enjoyable, and I would recommend it to individuals seeking a relaxed and comfortable means of getting to Fläm. However, if you're specifically looking for a tour filled with captivating storytelling and detailed historical insights, it may be worth exploring other options that prioritize those aspects more prominently.

Notre guide privé Arturs nous a pris à l'hôtel et nous a emmenés prendre le train à Geilo pour Myrdal : paysage somptueux où, fin mai, la neige recouvre encors la terre et la glace est visible sur les eux ! Puis changement de train à Myrdal pour prendre le fameux Flam Railway, avec ses antiques banquettes, direction Flam. C'est une succession de paysages fabuleux, aux mille cascades, entrecoupés de tunnels. Un arrêt de 10 mn est prévu pour voir de très près l'une des plus importantes. Puis, nous avons pris un bateau électrique pour naviguer sur le Sognefjord : à l'avant du bateau, dans un silence assourdissant, on a l'impression de voler aux dessus de l'eau ! La vue est à couper le souffle ! A l'arrivée, notre super guide nous amène sur 3 points de vues exceptionnels : une passerelle au dessus du vide avec le fjord en dessous, un petit muret toujours avec un décors de cinéma derrière et enfin, au plus proche d'une énorme cascade. Puis retour à l'hôtel. Nous avons adoré cette journée très intense, mais fabuleuse !
