Great time and introduction to Orvieto. Alberino was very knowledgeable and articulate. We saw a lot of local sites as well as great history, the beautiful Duomo especially. Highly recommended!

Excellent Tour and a must visit place. Magdalena our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and provided a fantastic insight into the history and architecture of Orvieto as well as the social, political and culinary history.

Having been many times to Italy and seen a multitude of cathedrals, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this one. It is beautiful and we were fortunate to have guide who not only knew its history but believed in the faith it symbolized.

Orvieto è un piccolo borgo dell'Umbria abbarbicato su una rupe di tufo. Il Duomo (1290) con la sua facciata a mosaico ospita una scultura marmorea della Pietà. Il Pozzo di San Patrizio (XVI secolo) dispone di una doppia scala a chiocciola. Una rete di grotte sotterranee testimonia le radici etrusche della cittadina. Manufatti di quel periodo, tra cui ceramiche e oggetti in bronzo, sono esposti al Museo Archeologico Nazionale.

We scheduled a 3 hour walking tour of Orvieto through Presto tours. Orvieto is an easy 1.5 hour train ride from Rome. From the train station in the modern part of Orvieto, you must get to the hilltop medieval town by bus, taxi or funicular.
Our guide, Elisa, met us at the top of the funicular station. She began by taking us to the main gate of the town and the city walls, which provide stunning views of the Umbrian countryside. She then showed us St Patrick's Well, which we had the option to return to after the tour if we wished to climb the 12 flights of stairs to the bottom. She took us through the charming streets of Orvieto, pointing out the best shops and restaurants along the way.
The highlight of the tour was the cathedral. Elisa went into detail about the history, architecture, art, politics and religious traditions. She was very knowledgeable and a very warm, animated style. Highly recommend this tour!

Michele was a fantastic host. Brimming with knowledge and very accommodating to what we were interested in, he made the history of this beautiful town come alive, along with the wider history of Umbria. There was so much we learnt that we hadn't discovered from guide books or other sources. The underground caves were amazing, as was our private tour of the theatre and the walk along the outer wall, with its incredible view over the surrounding valley. A definite must-do for anyone visiting the area.

The tour and the local guide were wonderful. She was super knowledgeable, but not boring, and showed us the church, underground, and the town. Nothing negative about the tour, but a few tips about the town... #1 - The tour meeting place is uphill from the vernacular - make sure you have enough time or take the shuttle bus. #2 - The majority of the shops close between 1-4... I would peruse them first, do lunch, and then a tour. #3 - The people were not overly friendly. Only one store that I walked into acknowledged my presence. One actually looked at me, and turned and walked the other way. We stopped in the store with the Pinocchio nose chocolates after lunch, for espresso and chocolates, and they were noticeably rude to us. Very odd.

Three of us were visiting Orvieto for two days and had a private tour of Orvieto, including the beautiful cathedral there. Michele was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable about the history of Orvieto and the cathedral. We had a great time and I highly recommend Umbria con me for tours.
