Genealogy search in Ireland!

My husband and I enjoyed the Cobh Heritage Centre. The best part was that we hired the genealogist who works there, Christy Keating. My family had been searching for years for where our ancestors came from in Ireland to no avail. I explained the details to Christy and within the hour he was able to find a marriage license for my great, great grandparents from 1844! Not only that, but he located the town where they were from, pulled up a register of rent payers at that time to locate exactly the house where my 3rd great grandfather lived. I was thrilled!

Christy Keating did some genealogy for us today . We are visiting Ireland from Canada.
He was a huge help to us and helped us find information on our Irish family.

Extensive information well laid out but some bits missing

Well laid out and full of info but sadly lacking any details of the RMS Baltic or the passenger name on my ticket I guess they’ve altered the exhibition. I found another review saying the same thing. Since the Baltic sailed on for many years I guess the passenger made it😊

Thank you for your review and we're sorry to hear that you didn't find your person. Without revealing too much and spoiling it for future visitors...your person went on to become very rich and influential. The display is set into a stack of antique suitcases and the screen goes into sleep mode if not used in a while. I'll update the signage in the area to make sure the story isn't missed. First time visit

I visited with Christy in search of information on my ancestors who departed Cobh in 1825. They were part of the Robinson Settlement in Ontario Canada. Christy was able to get me to their home town of Castlelyons. Without his help I would have struggled. Thank You!

A highlight of our trip to Ireland

This was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Ireland. We booked online the day before and they were expecting us when we arrived. We spent 2/3 hours before a visit to the coffee shop. We went around at our own pace and thankfully it was not very busy. So many interesting aspects to enjoy and we would thoroughly recommend the whole experience

Christy Keating is a Marvel

Christy Keating was a fantastic source in searching for our Irish Forbearers. We last saw him 9 years ago and he directed us to a source, Joe Creedon, in Inchigeelagh, the birthplace of my Great-Grandfather. This year we went to thank him for his help and he is still a marvel! The Queenstown Story is well worth a visit and a visit to Christy a MUST!

Great time! Could have better souvenirs

Overall great experience and nice staff! Would totally recommend to anyone looking to learn more about their Irish heritage. One thing I would say is that they have little to no souvenirs that are directly related to the heritage museum, humor even a post card of the museum. Would have been nice to have something to remind me of the experience.

Well worth the time and cost.

Very informative about the ships that left from Cobh (aka Queenstown at times), as well as the history of the area. This includes the Titanic. Also the Lusitania recovery was based there.

Don't miss this emigration story

This was an excellent visit! I learned so much history regarding emigration - well-designed displays that were easy to read. The sections on the Titanic and the Lusitania were also very well done. The staff were helpful and extremely welcoming. I highly recommend this to any visitors to Ireland. Also, the town of Cobh is delightful; it is very scenic with beautiful views at the top of the hill. The hike up to see the church is well worth the climb.
