We were picked up at the front doors of Sails in the Desert by the AAT Kings Coach at 4:30 AM, after all passengers had been picked up from around the resort ring road we arrived in less than 10 minutes, followed by a leisurely stroll along a marked path to an elevated viewing point above the field of light. Then it was another walk down into and through the field, followed by a return to the viewing point for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, bickies and the Sunrise at Uluru. Kata Tjuta was also visible from this point and both rock formations were lite and changed hue with the rising sun. A marvellous way to commence the day - well worth the cost of a ticket. Enjoy. From pick up On the tour description they give you the key times..pick up at the resort 105 minutes before sunrise and return 30 minutes after sunrise. The site isn't far from the resort. The days will be beautiful, it warms up early, the nights will be cold but nothing a jacket won't fix, generally it does not get very cold until after 9pm

You need to be able to get up the steps of the pickup bus, which was a regular coach The path up the dune and down onto the FoL is graded with some blown sand. I would estimate each section was 100m The walk around the FoL is flat and there are several benches. The field is large but you don't have to walk all around to see the intended effect You can return up to the dune view in your own time. You don't have to go down into the field of you don't wish to. There are benches at the top. Can't see why you couldn't carry a small fold up chair if it would give extra confidence All the guide info is delivered on the bus or at the top. You are lead down to the FoL but not guided around it. They don't rush you. A woman using a walking aid (two walk sticks) participated fully in our tour with the help of her friend. Our personal head torches with a red function were helpful on the dune paths but not required in the FoL. Hope this helps you decide. The tour operator will also give you good info on what to expect and can probably be more accurate about the distances than I am.

The sunrise tour arrives in the dark. You see the full field from the dune top observation area then walk down among it until the predawn light when the lights fade out. See the sun rise on Uluru in front as it emerges from the dark, and on Kata Tjuta behind you, while having a hot drink on the dune top. We liked that you saw the lights and the sunrise
