I went on a bus tour day trip to the Hobbiton outdoor film set from and returning to Auckland - was an awesome day ! Starting January 2024 there will be a hobbit hole with interior decoration but it was under construction so outdoor only plus the green dragon inn - beautiful countryside even before getting in - a lot of people around , but beautiful photos and knowledgeable guides both during the tour and part of Cheeky travel - lady in Hobbiton had a Welsh accent - the best !!

Grant was the perfect guide to get us there and back safely. We didn’t have to worry about what to do at the Hobbiton site as he made sure we had all the information and times for the tour.

Kiwi Travel did a great job organising transfer and access to the Hobbiton Movie Set. Really friendly staff and guide.
There was an issue with the mini-bus which we identified at the rest stop but Kiwi Travel arrange to get it sorted as quickly as possible. We were delayed but they rearrange our tour time and still got to see the Hobbiton Movie Set.
Hobbiton itself was amazing, great to see in person and it was amazing to see what they did.
All in all a great experience, even though there was an issue but Kiwi Travel handled it quickly and professionally with no issues.

This was the perfect way to get from Auckland to Hobbiton. Grant, our driver, was funny, kind, and knowledgeable. He made our small group experience more than we could have expected. Truely felt like an old friend was taking us along on an adventure. Thank you Grant

Wonderful day, Cheeky Kiwi tours is professional and friendly. The tour guide was very friendly with great explanations of everything. The Hobbiton movie set was great! We had the most knowledgeable tour guide. Our tour guide Brad has his horse in one of the Hobbit movies. Brad is actually doing his PhD in trilogies, his explanations and stories by far were the best. Seeing the set in-person is a must especially if you're a Hobbit or Lord of Rings fan.

It was My first time in NZ doing such a tour and it was an amazing experience. From the pickup to drop-off our guide Grant was nothing but professional. He was punctual from the get go and gave us many options along the way to make our experience a memorable one. He provided us so much of information along the way.
Hobbiton itself was a memorable experience and I highly recommend this trip down to the movie set.

Trip was excellent our guide was knowledgeable and engaging. Only downside was traffic jam going home. Trip itself was great.

We had a fantastic day on this tour. The set is very picturesque, and the experience is very immersive. Our tour guide, Althea was brilliant - she brought a great energy and was very informative and helpful.

Hi there,
Looking to see if you can depart any time during the day from Auckland? As I have seen some say leave at different times from 9am - 3.30pm.
We are looking at either today early afternoon or tomorrow early morning.
Also how long is the total duration: the drive there, the tour and the drive back?
A prompt response would be greatly appreciated.

The tour was only 2 hours long at the movie set if you could drive there and get the ticket yourself. Because I booked this tour with cheeky, we didn’t get pick up around 10am then stopped by other hotel to pick up others. It took around 1-2 hours to get to the movie set from the last pick up. So if you book the tour with cheeky, it will be a whole day. I did some research after I booked this tour that you could actually take a bus early in the morning from central Auckland to the movie set then get out by 3pm to take the bus back. But remember to book your ticket with the hobbiton first because the tickets seemed to sell out quickly. Once you booked the ticket, you could look for transportation. Hope this help!

The website is "hobbitontours" to order your tickets direct.
Also, it is important if you go you allow time to line up for your assigned tour time of the site. They wait for no one; you must be prompt.
