Worst tour I have ever had.

Biggest waste of time and money my wife and I have ever done. Only having 4 hours to complete the tour, our tour wasted the first 25 minutes leaving town, only to turn around to exchange 4 passengers that had been placed on the wrong tour van. Our driver had no knowledge of the van he was driving, he didn't know how to work the step or the heating and defroster. Being pressed for time, it was very surprising to our group to witness our driver stop to take a photo of an antique camper van, while we all sat in the van waiting for him to take some pictures. The driver more than once, tried answering his cellphone while driving, totally unprofessional and it showed he was incapable of accomplishing both tasks at the same time as we weaving across the road. Our driver told us he usually drives a large tour bus, but his skills were lacking while operating the van, so I find it hard to believe he could handle a tour bus. A bottle of water was supposed to have been provided for each passenger, but none was available. They also say they will give you a souvenir which is a postcard. While we were pressed for time, we did manage to spend a full 30 minutes at a honey farm. The driver did point out numerous homes as we were driving around, and offered his opinion as to the cost of these homes. If you are stopping in Napier on a cruise and have limited time, don't waste it on this tour.

Hi Sightsee, Thank you for taking the time to place a review. Yes, you were pushed for time that day and yes, 4 pax did board the wrong van at the start of your tour. As you know, we had 7 vans going out this day and that group of 4 did board the wrong van. That was realised after about 2 minutes and a phone call was made to your driver to return and swap them to the van they were told to board. Yes, he should have pulled over, to take the call, which he answers via an earpiece that he wears. The van this day was a Merc, and yes, he did have just a few minutes to familiarise himself at the start of the tour, hence figuring out the step. and door co-ordination. The controls are different in these vans. If you are used to driving one type, these operations are automatic, this day it was not. Yes, he has a lot of tour driving experience, he is one of the few drivers to drive double decker tour coaches throughout the country, this is his background. There is always water available and fresh local fruit and this was available on your tour. Pointing out homes and buildings is what the art deco portion is about and giving the background and this maybe pricing if asked. I am very sorry that you did not enjoy your tour, I am disappointed that you lash out publicly and did not give the owners a call to try to sort this out. As you know, we do not ask for reviews, but if something is wrong, contact the owners. We may not get to see your review for weeks and this doesn't help anyone. We do more cruise ship tours than any other operator in the area, we really do not like receiving these reviews and we will be chatting to your driver about your review. If you received postcards, then our contact details are on this along with your ticket. - John

Thoroughly enjoyed our tour in Napier/Hawkes Bay. The weather was glorious to add to. Our tour guide did so well explaining the history of the area. Couldn’t have asked for a better day. Thank you.

Napier Half Day Tour.

This was a great tour, with very informative driver. Enjoyed seeing Napier and surrounding areas. What a lovely country is NZ!

Horrible Company…Poorly Organized…Cancelled our Tour

Booked a tour months ago with this company…stopped in port of Napier, NZ on an Azamara cruise. Got off the ship and found the tour operator who told us our tour was cancelled ( no notice) she then said she’d put us on another tour. As she was loading the bus she realized there were more people than she thought and said we were out of luck. So no tour for us even though we booked months ago and had recently communicated with them. Terrible company and horribly organized. Only had small bus crammed with people…maybe we were lucky we got axed.

Hi Sara266: I am disappointed to read your review. Yes, you booked months ago, then a couple of days prior, your driver/guide was covid positive. We could have continued your tour (legally) however, we would not do this. We sent a message via text via the phone number you provided. You were informed of the driver having covid and we could not then provide your tour. We had cancelled your tour. Your commented about the loading of the small coach, this is a terrible comment, we know exactly who is on any one tour and what coach or van they will travel on. This is why your received a text message to say that we then could NOT provide your seats. Crammed in ?? there was an empty seat in that coach. There was NO cramming in. Again, disappointed to hear your bitter comments. Maybe by now, you would have read our message on the number you provided ... Maggie

amazing Napier with amazing guide

What a great experience. Firstly with John arranging our tour and then with our tour guide Maggie. Both have a great passion for their home town and region and willingly shared their extensive love and knowledge of the area with us. We toured the township to see and learn the Art Deco and earthquake histories and and then ventured into the hinterland to view some amazing scenery. We stopped off for a very tasty ice-cream along the way. We spent a very relaxed and enjoyable half day in friendly company, which then allowed ample time for us to take in the foreshore and this amazing town.

Lovely Napier

I booked the tour independently as I was travelling alone , the communication before I left was amazing, Maggie came to the hotel to collect me and drive me to the pick up point.

John was an amazing guide , friendly and very knowledgeable about Napier and the history about the Earthquake.
It was a hot day so again we were provided with cold water and an apple now that is thoughtful.Plus good rest breaks
Just another point Maggie even dropped me at the Mission Winery for Micheal Buble concert. Thank you so much , you are a great team it was a great trip I will definetly book with you again

Napier’s Hinterland: Hawkes Bay

What a great excursion if in Napier for the day. We had a little history, a brief look around Napier & a wonderful trip into the stunning hinterland. There were orchards, wineries & an amazing mountain range with views to die for... photos attached! On return to Napier there is still ample time to enjoy this wonderful Art Decor town... loved it! Our guide was knowledgeable & entertaining.

Beautiful Scenery

We enjoyed our tour in an air-conditioned minivan with John as our guide. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, telling us about the area and answering all our questions. The scenery was beautiful as we traveled through the countryside. When we returned to Napier, John described the history of the use of Art Deco architecture in the city and pointed out the specific features of this design style to help us appreciate the detail. As the tour was only a half-day, we had plenty of time to shop and explore the town before returning to the ship. This tour was a good value at a very reasonable price.

Lois and Ron day in Napier

Our tour guide John was outstanding and very Knowledgeable of Napier's history and the wonderful locations we visited in the comfortable bus we traveled in. We particularly enjoyed the art deco architecture, the beautiful wine Valleys, and the panoramic views of the region from mt. Mata. We highly recommend this tour operator for anyone visiting the Napier area.
Additionally we left a cell phone on the bus which John recovered and was kind enough to forward it on to our next tour destination.

That is so easy to do, and we have so much info on those phones/cameras today that it really is a lifeline to us. Well Worth It. Te Mata Peak is Amazing

This was nice tour, with plenty of time to wander the city and get back to the ship. We had a good driver, very informative and there was plenty of time at all the stops to take pictures and take in the views. If anything, I wish we'd have seen a little more of the art deco in Napier, but no complaints.

Hi JohnC: Thank you for your great review. I am pleased you enjoyed your Napier shore excursion with us. As you are sometimes in port for a very short time, as your were this day, it is a juggling act for us to deliver a tour that everyone is happy with and the correct proportions for all. We do try to allow at least an hour at the completion of the tour for you all to walk up and around the main shopping areas before boarding the shuttle back to your ship.
