Booking this excursion on Tripadvisor was one of the best decisions we could have made. Deon and his wife, two dogs, Pepper the Pig and Barbara the Sheep (not for eating) were incredibly hospitable and great tour guides.
Here's what to expect. Deon will pick you up at the cruise terminal, right out front. They keep all of the raft equipment on their property, a charming spot near the river entrance in Hawkes Bay. You gear up in serious waterproof, warm gear, because even in the summer it was chilly and the water was cold - but we weren't there to swim, of course.
The scenery was breathtaking, with lush forests and towering cliffs lining the riverbanks. The rapids were small and unchallenging - we maybe used our oars twice, our tour was more of a relaxing scenic experience along the river. Our guide Deon was knowledgeable and experienced, and made sure we had a safe and enjoyable time on the water.
As a bonus, Deon's wife made us a lovely lunch after our trip, and I fed Pepper a banana peel. Overall, I highly recommend the Mohaka River rafting tour for anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure in New Zealand.

Went on a river rafting with Deon today from raftfish.com booked via this website.
What an absolute great bloke he is.
He will personalize the tour to suit all involved and is in contact personally from the minute you book.
We also got a great (homemade) lunch given by his wife which was an absolute treat.
Will definitely come back and go rafting with Deon again very soon.

We were well looked after. Picked up from the port and had a great day on the river. The egg and bacon pie and sandwiches were perfect after the paddle.

We booked the raft fish tour directly with the owner Deon. The price was about half of what the cruise ship charged. Deon picked us up at the port right away after we were allowed to exit the ship. He drove us through the beautiful countryside of Napier to get to his home where he and his wife outfitted us with water proof shoes, fleece jacket, raincoat and pants, and helmet to make sure we are warm and dry and protected. The starting point of the rafting is only two minutes away from his house. The scenery down the river was very beautiful and there were some exciting wows and whoas when the raft bumped into the sides of the gorge.
Deon taught us how to steer the raft and took many photos of us along the way. My husband was not able to join us at the last minute. He made extra efforts to ensure my safety. I appreciated it very much. When the rafting was over after an hour or so, we were treated to a delicious lunch prepared by his wife. The food was amazing! This was one of my best excursion experiences. Highly recommended!

Der Ausflug war sehr gut. Leider hatte das Wetter sich nicht von der besten Seite gezeigt, aber Deon hat trotzdem gute Laune verbreitet und trotz der Sprachbarriere für ein tolles Erlebnis gesorgt. Da es ein Ausflug im Rahmen der Kreuzfahrt war, ist das Thema Pünktlichkeit nicht unwichtig. Auch dabei fühlten wir uns absolut sicher.

Highly recommend!! Everything was very organised from the start. We met Deon (who is a champ), waiting for us where he said. Noel carefully drove us to the river (and did the best city tour afterwards). Jo was there to assist with getting ready and then Dallas guided us perfectly in the raft. It was the best day and the only thing that would have made it better was for it to be longer... we'll be back to make that happen! Thanks to everyone, a crew of legends!!! Book this one, for sure 👌

Très belle excursion, le guide vous prend à la sortie de la navette et hop nous partons pour un raft tranquille mais avec quelques frissons pour 2h de rafting et un délicieux lunch devant la rivière à la fin. Super guide qui vous laisse prendre des photos (attention bien tenir son appareil) et manœuvre parfaitement dans les courants.
À faire en couple et avec des enfant, tout est fourni (pantalon chaussures jacket) il ne vous reste que votre bonne humeur pour encore embellir votre journée.
Le guide surveille bien l’heure pour regagner la navette.

This was an excellent raft trip. Deon picked us up at the port we were the only ones on the trip so it made it a real personal trip. He took us to his home by the river, we had a brilliant 2 hr sail down the river with mild rapids but I also jumped in to the river and floated along through one section which was great. At the end his wife Jo picked us up and took us back to their house for lunch that she had prepared. Very friendly and homely feel to the experience much better than an organised ship tour. Would definitely recommend it.

It was a beautiful river float trip.It was so peaceful and Deon was easy to like and he made our day great.He loves what he does and you can see why.He picked us up at cruise port and took us to his home to get our gear and we loaded up raft and we were at the river in a few minutes we were floating down the Mahaku River.We were out of the city into the mountain area.River was calm and very serene quiet float.It was hot and Deon kept us cooled off in a special way.There was six of us and we agreed best excursion of the cruise.I highly recommend Raft Fish NZ.I felt like I made a new friend,Cheers" Mr Redneck "

Yes thats correct, our place is right next to it.
Cruise ship is scheduled to dock at 8am and depart at 5pm. Does this leave time before or after raft trip to see Art Deco Napier. If after, how would we get from Napier back to ship? Is this far?

Hi there, if these timings are correct on the day then yes you can checkout art deco napier afterwards. The bus can drop you there and napier city puts on free busses from the city to your ship, this takes 5 minutes max. We can rell you where and when on the day, our trips usually take 5 hours.
