This tour was a highlight of our NZ trip. The forest is a wondrous place at night when you have a guide as exceptional as Stephen. I couldn’t believe how many glow worms and other amazing things we saw. It was a magical experience.

Outstanding! Stephen was a knowledgeable guide and fantastic photographer. We learned a lot. Appreciated the homey touches of hot chocolate and cookies at the end of the tour. 5 stars!

This was THE best tour of our whole visit to New Zealand and a wonderful insight into its flora and fauna. Stephen is a superb guide who grew up here and has a fantastic knowledge of the flora and fauna. The night forest walk was simply amazing, with so much to see and learn about. Stephen provided each of us with torches and we followed a trail through a truly wild rainforest with majestic trees including both green and silver tree ferns. Then came the magical time when we turned off the torches and saw the thousands of glow-worms, like stars in the sky, all around us! We could go right up to them and Stephen explained their life history while we watched them creating their jewel-like insect trap lines. Stephen skilfully illuminated a backdrop for beautiful photos of each of us (provided by email afterwards) as well. This amazing walk was concluded with hot chocolate and biscuits around the minivan. Do not miss this, if you're visiting Rotorua!

We loved our night out in the forest in Rotorua to watch glowworms. Our guide, Stephen, was exciting and very knowledgeable. He made the evening captivating with his anecdotes and even took great night photos of the participants.
The forest illuminated by glowworms was beautiful. This is a unique activity that I highly recommend to all visitors to Rotorua. Thank you, Stephen, for an unforgettable evening!

Our guide, Steve, took the six of us into the back country, and eventually, into the forest at night. He was an excellent guide, finding things to show us that none of us otherwise would have seen. He took several photos and then send them to us. We got to several places where there were literally thousands of glow worms! Using his camera, he illustrated their bodies and “fishing lines“. The whole thing was amazing! Plus we saw several pussoms and a couple of wallabies. He equipped us all with red flashlights and white flashlights and served us hot chocolate at the end. I would highly recommend this trip!

A magical experience. Stephen is experience, professional, a font of knowledge, and has a wonderful sense of humour.
Maximum size of the group, 8, is perfect. It's easy to gather round in the forest setting and hear him, and 'photo shoots' are manageable.
I highly recommend this tour.

Fantastic trip with knowledgeable, engaging guide. Saw much flora and fauna, the highlight being the incredible glow worms en masse like a night sky. Highly recommended.

This is the best tour in Rotorua to see glow worms. The guide Stephen is very knowledgeable about the local animals and plants. He provided transportation from our hotel, small group in a spacious comfortable van. The location is private and he has exclusive access. We got to see Wallibies and possums on our walk through the forest. Silver fern abundant in the forest is perfect set up for pictures. Got to see different plant species exclusive to NZ. He took great pictures with smart lighting techniques with flashlights leveraging the natural glow of silver fern. And then of course the highlight of the tour of thousands of glow worms all over the forest creating an image of night sky with stars. We got to see the glow worms up close and watched them move around like chandeliers. In the end, we were treated again to sight of wallibies and possums playing around in the forest. The tour ended with hot chocolate and cookies. He dropped us back to hotel. It was a magical night out of a fairy tale.

We thoroughly enjoyed the gloworm walking tour! Stephen is knowledgable and passionate about the Rotorua area and showed us so much more more than gloworms - but they were certainly the highlight! The hot chocolate and shortbread were a nice touch too. 100% recommended!

Hi I am unable to book for 2 adults and 2 children on 3 Dec 22. However with 4 adults the booking can go through. How do I go about this issue?

Apologies for the delayed response. The track is a little uneven in parts but Stephen made sure one was safe be giving a forewarning. I am relatively fit with arthritic knees and managed it. Stephen is very solicitous

I think it varies at different times of year depending on nightfall since it is a nocturnal tour so it must be dark.

Will this tour be suitable for family with children?
Children be age 12 and 7.
Duration 3 hours should be fine with them pending departure and return timing.
The boys be super excited with torches at night exploring.

Sorry you have trouble. I don’t know about a senior price. One of us was a senior when we took the tour, but that person paid the same price as everyone else. Have you tried to email the tour operator yet? We did communicate via email with him prior to our tour, and he responded as quickly as his schedule allowed. He offers other tours so he’s busy in the daytime with customers, but he replied to each of our emails when he could. Happy travels!
