Having now had the opportunity to investiagte this matter I can advise as follows; The driver actually remembers the incident quite clearly. The couple were not initially there when he arrived to pick them up in Franz Josef, they arrived at 0912. The driver had driven them the previous day and they had been late getting back to the coach when stopping at the Salmon farm in Paringa. The driver informed them that the company policy when passengers are not present at time of departure is to ring our Supervisors and inform them of the missing passengers, following that he will depart without them if both he and the supervisors have been unable to locate them. This is our normal procedure as the drivers have to also think about the other passengers on board that have returned on time for the bus. The correct pick up time is 0910 however as per our GPS the driver didn’t depart until 0912. All other passengers from the hotel had been checked in between 0902-0906. They were checked in at 0912. Marc has been driving with us since 2015 so is one of our more experienced drivers.

Yes, it has been excellent weather recently down south - particularly in Milford Sound which has had incredible weather over the past few weeks. I'm sorry to hear that your name was misspelled and that you weren't dropped off at your hotel but instead across the street. Occasionally when we make bookings, suppliers such as the train can make a simple mistake of misspelling names on the booking. The majority of the time it is easily overcome, as was the case with you. As for the shuttle drop off, I'm sorry to hear that happened and thanks for for reporting this. We will take this up with the transfer company to assure that it doesn't happen again. Once again, thanks for the great review and I hope you visit New Zealand again at some point in the future!

And it's great to hear you enjoyed the commentary from your guides from Christchurch to Queenstown and on the Milford Sound Nature Cruise. I'll be sure to pass on your praise to them. It's sad to hear that the standard of the guides dropped on your second trip to Franz Josef. The salmon farm is usually just a shortstop and, as you mentioned, very weather dependent - it is not usually apart of the standard itinerary. However, we will pass on your feedback to both the driver and the salmon farm operators. And as for the pick up, the reason there are central pickups is to avoid the passengers sitting in the coach for up to an hour whilst the coach is going around doing all of the pickups at different hotels. It allows passengers to be picked as quickly as possible, so the tour can commence and not arrive too late in Queenstown. I'm sorry to hear that the weather made this wait uncomfortable.
