We were excited to finally get to go on a tour of this centre... especially looking forward to the Hagglund ride. However we did not know this was not operating until we were leaving. It is out of action until July. Very disappointed we were not told this on entering as we still had to pay full price. The rest of the tour was great. Huskies dog were a real treat, their owner was very informative and easy to talk with.

The center was great and has some interesting information. We had a good time my sons 11 and 9 found the interactive elements really fun. But there were a few things that ruined our experience, mainly some of the staff members just seemed a bit off like they’d all had a bad day. But the main thing that left us all with a really bad feeling was the driver of the huggland ride, he was friendly enough when we got in, we all enjoyed the ride my 9 year old in particular and when we got out he was unbelievably grumpy and rude in particular to my 9 year old who was so excited telling the driving how amazing it was and what his best bits were, the driving completely blanked him and told him off for undoing the seat belts, which I don’t think were actually all done up to being with, he blamed my kid for opening them all- there was only about 4 undone. We hadn’t realised so did them back up for him and still he was rude to us ignoring us when we said thank you and apologised. Not sure if he had bad news on the journey around but it was pretty rubbish end to a fun couple of hours.

We went to the International Antarctic Centre with two young children (5 and 8yrs old). They both thoroughly enjoyed their time there. The highlight was the 4D show. The snow dome was great too, but the kids couldn’t stay on for the simulated snow storm as it got a bit too cold for them. We did not go on the Hägglund Field Trip ride because our 5yo did not meet the 120cm minimum height. The centre is just next to the airport, so should serve as a good first stop after flying into Christchurch.

We enjoyed the off-road experience that mimics the conditions in Antarctica, driving on snow and ice isn't a smooth trip. Lots of bumps and steep climbing on the Hagglund ride. The 4-D film was fun and educational. And the blue penguins are cute, even if they are unrelenting birds of prey! Our tour guide was very informative and answered questions we didn't even know we had. Don't miss the storm dome to experience a mild snowtorm in Antarctica. Fun!

A great way to get to know and experience Antarctica and the work being done. The Storm room was fun to watch to see if any people quit when it got too cold. It does get pretty chilly, but IAC supply some great cold weather gear to tough it out! Hagglund ride would have been fun too, but joint issues prevented climbing aboard. Meet the Huskies & 4D movie was excellent too.

Highly entertaining and informative. A number of excellent interactive experiences including a not-to-be-missed caterpillar ride. An excellent option for a rainy day, and well worth a visit in the sun as well. Would be good for families and children.

Not cheap and we didn't have time to try everything but but we did experience a blizzard, glimpse some penguins, read some displays about life in the area (e.g. challenges for photographers) and the highlight, patting some huskies and meeting their Māori handler.

Our experience would have been so much better with a map/guide/timetable about what to expect from our visit. We had booked on line and queued on arrival to be given a pink receipt with our booking time of 1.30pm circled. As we were early we went to the cafe where the offerings were limited and disappointing. At 1.30 we had our photo taken at the entry and then found ourselves in an area where people were quickly donning jackets and overshoes to get through a door to an icy area. We were just in time to join them but completely unprepared for the biting cold of the Antarctic Storm! Exiting that we saw the penguins and then wandered around a bit unsure where to go next. The wonderful David came to our rescue, advised us to queue for the 4D experience film and then come back and see him. It turned out we had been booked for the VR Thin Ice film at 1.30! Thankfully David was able to ensure we didn't miss out on the best part of our visit. We are Kiwis and can only imagine how bewildering the visit may have been for visitors with English as a second language. New Zealand - we can do better than this.

If your asking about standing-on-the-ice simulation room, the temperate display said -17.6 F and - 8C while we were in there.
