Amazing highlight of my trip to Queenstown. I highly recommend a trip with Luke! His competence and experience shows an ability to reassure and make passengers feel safe, especially those anxious about flying. Stopping on a glacier was an especially memorable. New Zealand, with its breathtaking landscapes and cinematic allure, proved to be an exceptional destination, and our decision to embark on the Lord of the Rings + Glacier Explorer tour with Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters was an absolute highlight. This tour, a symphony of natural beauty and cinematic enchantment, left us spellbound from start to finish.
Our journey began with a seamless pickup by the Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters' courtesy coach at our hotel. The anticipation mounted as we arrived at their office, conveniently located with direct access to our awaiting Airbus AS359 Squirrel Helicopter. The moment we stepped onto the tarmac and boarded the helicopter, our adventure took flight under the capable command of our pilot, Michael.
As the rotors spun and we ascended into the sky, it felt as though we were riding a magical carpet. The vistas that unfolded before us were nothing short of breathtaking – soaring over majestic mountain ranges, soaring like eagles, and tracing the paths of the epic films that had brought this land to the world's attention. Michael skillfully maneuvered the helicopter, allowing us to savor a complete 360-degree panorama.
Our first landing was in the alpine splendor of Hunter Mountains, affording us a glimpse of the iconic Lake Wakatipu – albeit partially shrouded in an enchanting inversion cloud layer. While the lake remained elusive, the rest of our flight brought us face to face with nature's grandeur. The subsequent glacier landing was an exhilarating venture onto fresh snow – reminiscent of the trials endured in the Redhorn Pass by characters we had come to love. We reveled in this winter wonderland, a playground for the child in each of us, and marveled at the pristine beauty of the mountain glacier.

Throughout the approximately 50-minute flight, every instant was punctuated with awe and wonder. Michael, our pilot and guide, exuded confidence and expertise. Beyond piloting the helicopter, he regaled us with tales of the filming process and the landscapes that had captured the imaginations of millions. He ensured our experiences at the landing sites were impeccable, even helping us capture the perfect photographs to commemorate our journey.
In the embrace of the vast Southern Alps, our adventure had been not only an exploration of stunning scenery but also a pilgrimage to Middle-earth. This was an awesome experience. The two landings were stunning. Michael our pilot was fantastic with a great commentary showing some great filming locations. The view of the landscape from above was outstanding.

My family had a fabulous experience.
We were picked up close to our hotel and shuttled to the airport. Our pilot took great care of us and pointed out numerous points of interest during our flight. Our two mountain landings were perfect! It gave us an incredible view of the area surrounding Queenstown and was the highlight of our vacation!

This was a last minute booking for my birthday and GSLH were able to squeeze me on to one of their afternoon LOTR flights. All I can say is it turned out to be one of the highlights of my whole trip! Not a lot of LOTR content but the scenery and the thrill of my first helicopter flight eclipsed that. Will definitely be back again soon to do another helicopter tour with these guys. Great customer service with pick up and drop off options for Queenstown.

This was such a GREAT experience! I'm terrified of heights and I've never felt safer. Jeremy was knowledgable and friendly. It was a last minute splurge for our Honeymoon and worth every penny! I'm a huge LOTR fan and they even gave a booklet with extra information!

Michael the pilot was great. The views were stunning and being able to land on a glacier and walk around was pure magic. Great to have a couple of landing to settle the tummy was great. The blue ice glaciers will be something I will always remember.

Alfie was so skilled and knowledgeable. I was anxious as we had our 5 and 8 yr old kids with us. He soon put us at ease with his expertise and skill. Todays weather was perfect, glacier was so breathtaking and such a breathtaking view of Queenstown and surrounds. Alfie’s local knowledge and passion made it an experience we will never forget. Zipping low through the river and waving to the rafters at the end was awesome!
