Quite well organized & diverse experience, with boat ride across Lake Te Anua with some commentary, intro info prior to nature walk & cave tour. Very young cave with minimal formations, but impressive water activity, including rapids & falls. Glow worm activity on punt ride was good & better than experienced at Waitomo on North Island.

RealNz offer a very good, sleek operation. They’re fabulous to work with from start to finish. We took this tour from TeAnau & I felt we were lucky to have Suri as our guide. He was knowledgeable, entertaining, & showed a real passion for his job. The whole tour was well run & even though I was scared because it was so dark in the caves, our guide for the walk & punt Anna really did a great job of helping make us feel comfortable. Great trip, excellent value for $$. Kudos to whole team

Made to feel very welcome!
Would have liked some clearer instruction just as we waited to board the little boat in the dark. Our guide was drying the seats but it would have been nice to have a clearer instruction eg “Wait here. I am drying the seats for you” as most of us did not what was happening and were in the dark in more ways than one!
Also misleading information in the Information Centre. Excellent talk with pictures and video clips. BUT the display boards were misleading. The glow worm species may be unique but glow worms are found all over the world!

Wow what an experience. A 2.5 hour tour from te anau which goes on a boat to the other side where the caves are, through the glow worm caves and then back on the boat. They also did a video and explanation about the worms after the tour serving tea and coffee. This is quite an experience when you get into the cave. No photography allowed! To sit in pitch blackness and hear no sound and just enjoy the glow worms was incredible. Would recommend.

I would not recommend it. There are times when it is pitch black and many people on my tour "bumped" their heads a couple times. A reasonable person might suggest that the cave conditions might frighten a child and the risk of injury is not worth it.

I personally wouldn't take a one year old. You have to scramble through quite narrow passages to get to the boat which takes you through the caves.Also it is pitch dark and quite scary on the boat so not ideal for a baby. One option would be to all of you go over in the big boat to the visitor centre at the caves but then take turns to actually go on the tour of the caves. They divide you into groups as only one party can enter the caves at a time. From my recollection the actual tour is only 20 to 30 mins and the visitor centre is quite comfortable to wait a while. I'm sure the staff could accommodate that request. It's certainly worth a visit so good luck!

Probably. Check Real Journeys day trips out of Queenstown. I used their services to go to Milford Sound from Queenstown and booked with them prior to leaving the States to reserve Glow Worm tickets.
